Russian invasion of Ukraine
-
So it seems Vladmir Putin has decided to ignore the west and continue with it's invasion
wtf is wrong with Putin? and how come other all the other countries like England , USA and Australia are only putting in Financial Sanctions against Russia atm. all the other governments say they support the Ukraine but then how come no else is sending in their militaries to help back up the Ukraines force's to defend against Russia?
what does this forum think about the situation?

I'm just sad. I hate the current political climate.
-
The way I see it as harsh as it may appear is that this situation is between Ukraine and Russia and for other countries attempting to repel Russia's advances will only open more cans of worms. I think the emphasis is trying to prevent war rather than making it worse.
-
I honestly think that we're nearing a point where we've been before. Not dissimilar to when Hitler was a figure that was still tolerated. And I think we might be nearing a point when action will be inevitable.
But right now, I think we should exhaust all other options, diplomatic or through sanctions, and support the Ukrainian people as best as we can.
Edit: This is also not so dissimilar of the moments before WW1 and WW2. Where a nation felt the will to return to a former glory and correct the "wrongs" of history. And no matter where this is headed, nothing will be the same. It's like returning to the 80s, at best.
I'm surprised that China didn't made a move on Taiwan to be honest.

Of anything I saw from political leaders today, the inaction from the Swiss might be the loudest. At a certain point, your neutrality is being on the wrong side of history. They have the power to cut off Russian access to finance and chose to do nothing.

i just wonder if this is the beginning of World War III.
all of the news going on just makes me sad right now.

@dipset Switzerland is not exactly know for taking sides even in the most dark moments. They side with money and that's it.

Definitely beyond Hitler's level of assholness.

If y'all need a good source to keep up with the Ukraine situation then Adam Something's community page on YT is a great one. He's a political commentator based in Europe, and he consistently has good takes on the matter not to mention being good at keeping up with the news. https://www.youtube.com/c/AdamSomething/community
As for my thoughts, it really sucks that the Ukranian people have to deal with this, but I'm very impressed at their resilience and strength, it seems like most of the frontlines are still in Ukraine's favor. Putin and his cronies are just straight up bad dudes, I hope this doesn't end well for them. I hope other countries pick up the pace on helping Ukraine, they don't deserve this at all. Fuck imperialism.

Canada's big three TV providers have struck Russia Today (RT) from their channel lineups.
If you ask me, "stopping misinformation" is a synonym for "us saintly gatekeepers of knowledge believe all you peons are too stupid to judge things for yourselves, so you may only view what we deem correct".
You aren't going to get the full story from either side in a war anyway. Hearing both sides and splitting the difference gets you closer to actuality.

Wow Switzerland took a side just in time for every oligarch to pull all of their money and hide it in their families bank accounts and assets.
-
@phbz Excuse me!
There are no sanctions in Russia.
There is only Special Economic Operations!
-
@yoshi Glory to Arstotzka!
Jokes aside, what sad moment in history.
