'Summer' Olympics
-
Anybody else weirded out by the fact that the Summer Olympics are actually taking place during, what is for Brazil, the winter?
-
It's because of white people.

@Haru17
I know... I guess I'm just more surprised that nobody really brought up the fact.
-
There is the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics. They are always named as such. The location differs every time. I think it would be more confusing if they renamed it based on the location as they could end up with 2 summer or winter in a row.

Yeah I've always found this a little funny....but, to be fair, something like 90% of the human race lives in the northern hemisphere, so it makes sense to stick with our terminology.

Wow, I never realized that until now. If you really look, the oceans surrounding Antarctica just dwarf relatively small spans like the Northern Atlantic.

I've always just thought of them as summer and winter sports, hence the terms.
