Opening Cinematics

There are a whole bunch of good ones out there!
I remember buying ZoE 2 after reading about it in a games magazine, little did I know how much it would blow my mind, I mean just LOOK AT THE INTRO!
The Kingdom Hearts into really put me on the edge of my seat and I couldnt wait to play it! I even started new game a few times, just to watch the INTRO
Final Fantasy VI. One of the first JRPGs I played... Never had I known that games could be this deep and emotional.. until NOW

@BabyfartsMcgeezaks Yup! This was the first one to come to mind as well.
Although it does "borrow" a lot from 007 movies. That's what makes it so great though, it does that but it's still its own thing.
-
@SabotageTheTruth Yes, yes, and... wait, you don't like Kimahri?
@Lotias SO agree about Kingdom Hearts. That's a great intro.
-
@Brannox Least favorite Final Fantasy character of all time, by far. Vanille is more interesting than him and that's really saying something.
-
Tales of the Abyss
Megaman X4
Rockman X8
Some people already said Onimusha 3 and FF VIII and other awesome intros
-
@SabotageTheTruth WOW! Was not expecting that! Kimahri is alright to me, but Wakka is the guy I can't stand from X and Vaan/Penelo/Vanille earn a 3 way tie of most loathed for me in all of the series. Huh. Well cool! Another facet about why I love Final Fantasy so much. We all have our games, characters, weapons, summons, boss fights, etc..
-
@Brannox It's completely off topic (sorry @michemagius!) but I could never hate Wakka, since he's voiced by John DiMaggio, who also voices Bender from Futurama.
More on topic and slightly cheating is this opening.
I say cheating because it's not technically a cinematic (there's limited player interaction) but it mostly plays out like one. Seeing Rapture for the first-time is absolutely breathtaking... before you even realize what the inside is like.
-
@TheHashtag0nist FF8 was definitely the first that popped into my mind. I even looked up the video, copied it to the clipboard, but forgot to post last night lol.
-
@michemagius Ooooo, Persona openings, sooooo gooood.
@matt That opening's music has been my ring tone for years. Still my favorite MM over all others.
Now I'm trying to remember some cinematic openings I can be proud to share my love of...
-
final fantasy 8's opening always stuck with me sadly the rest of the game is just didnt stick with it .
-
-
For me its the intro to Max Payne 2. There are better ones sure, but this game is special to me. The first one where I really got sucked in by the story, the moment when I realized that the story is the thing that I am most interested in.
-
I was a fan of Mk Armageddon opening. Just seeing all those characters going at it like that was really cool. Best thing about the game probably lol
-
All the Persona intros are great as you mention, but I always think of this one when thinking of great intros, or at least the first few seconds
I knew this game was going to be something different right after that.
-
first off Dank Souls 3...
this fucking intro got me so god damn pumped to play the game holy shit.
Youtube Videosecond Tales of Zestiria, when i first watched it i was like, FUCK YES TALES IS DBZ NOW!!!! to bad the game turned out to be garbrge.

Tales of Zestiria's opening was amazing. It's not often I'll watch the opening cinematic every time I load up a game, but I did for that.
Recently I've been enjoying FFXIV's opening: https://youtu.be/1mRzWLRWOXc

Part artful and part trippy, I recently had the joy of adding this one to my favorite intros of all time.

FFXIV opening gives me goosebumps every time I see it, great pick!!
I also remember FFXI and World of Warcraft having a similar feeling back in their beginning.

@PixelRadio Yeah, getting into World of Warcraft back in the day when I was young and would play with my cousin was super hype. Y'know, before I had figured out the formula and how everything in MMOs was just copy-paste, laissez faire, wallet-vampirism, digital slavery bullshit.
But anyway, it was exciting going from that cutscene to Shadowglen, leveling up my rogue throughout Teldrassil and Kalimdor. I think the magic wore off by about Desolace (this was pre-cata). By then the quests were more transparent menial tasks and there weren't even that many menial tasks to do, just a lot of walking and terrible combat. But a good intro to be sure.
