Ya, seems like another cycle.

I think I have spent more time reporting spambots than actually browsing the forums lately... I will keep on doing it as long as I need to, but sometimes it feels somewhat frustrating.

@jipostus I can totally understand that. No one likes it.
Unfortunately our hands appear to be tied on preventing the spam so we can just try and get to it as soon as possible.

@Swordfish00830 @tokeeffe9 It's alright, you guys do what you can, and you can't spend all time everyday to look after spammers. I am willing to put up with it though. It has seemed to slow down again, but I know this is just temporary... There is no foolproof way to prevent spam, so the best we can hope is that those don't flood the entire forum with hundreds of posts...

Isn't it possible to only allow Patrons to use the forum? That would solve the problem.

@Axel No, there's no way to link Patreon accounts to forum accounts, and even if there were, I wouldn't want to shun someone from participating in the community because they lost their job or something. That's pretty much the opposite of what this community stands for.
The daily spam is certainly a nuisance, but it's not nearly bad enough to start cutting off access to any part of our community. Brent is looking into plugins to help cut down on it some more though.

@Bloodworth Yeah you're totally right, I didn't consider people losing their Patron status at one point or another.

@MCRMJ I'll do whatever I can to help this amazing community that we have here. Spam is frustrating to all of us, so I'll keep on reporting whenever I see those pop up.

FYI, Brent updated some of the new rules. So try to help legitimate new users out by giving them some rep.
"I updated some of the rules regarding new users posting. They cannot post for a full day, and before they get 10 rep, they can only post every 2 minutes."
We're also looking into a new plugin which should help cut the spam down.

@Bloodworth I believe the 2 minute rule may have affected more users than just the new ones. I received an error telling me, "You can only post once every 120 second(s) - please wait before posting again."

@Bloodworth The first new rule doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
We're basically penalising legitimate users from posting and only delaying the spam by a day which won't be apparent from the outside .
I don't know, it just seems like we're punishing new users more than the spam.

@tokeeffe9 Yeah, it's a bit much. I'm reducing it a bit to be more balanced.

New spam plug in is installed. It won't be 100%, but it's caught several posts already.

Thats awesome! will give us time to take a small breath :D at least now we should be able to avoid the walls of spam that has been before

All of this spam would have been reduced if you had chosen the correct forum software from day one. I already suggested xenForo when the forum first opened.
A plugin would fix things, but it's like you said bloodworth, it's not 100%. Many CAPTCHA programs have been broken, just keep in mind.
