WWE - Who is hyped!?

  • Anyone planning to watch CM Punk's debut in UFC this weekend? I'm pretty scared for him, I really hope he at least puts up a good fight.

I'll be watching live and I'm already stressing haha!

  • @Axel I have a feeling he is going to get dropped in about 1 minute.

  • @Axel said in WWE - Who is hyped!?:

And don't forget the return of BO Dallas!!

I liked how they debuted Bo Dallas now. He seems more... Raw.

  • Global Moderator

CM Punk made his UFC debut tonight he lost in the first round but what did you expect.

  • That was painful to watch, I was hoping he'd at least put up a fight. That Mickey Gall kid is good though, maybe this match will make a star out of him. Liked Punk's speech at the end, but I honestly don't see him ever making it, at least not before several more years of training, and he'll be pretty old by then... Kudos to him for going all the way though!

And now, who is hyped for Backlash?? ;)

  • @Axel I sure am!

I' a little worried about the length of the show, but with A.J Styles in the main event, we are defiantly going to end on a high note!

    • The Usos vs Heath Slater and Rhyno for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship:
I assume they are going to go with the Usos and not the god awful hype bros for the finale of the tournament. I can't believe i'm going to watch a ppv with Mojo Rawley on it. Anyhow I really like this match-up. The heel turn from the usos was well done, and in Slater's quest for the contract, they managed to turn him face, and in their last match there was even chants for Rhyno and gore.
I don't know what the plan is with Slater, but I really like the pairing with Rhyno.
The safe bet would be the Usos winning, and then feuding with American Alpha.

    • Six Pack Elimination Challenge for the Smackdown Womens Championship:
I do like that the Smackdown writers, is trying to do something with all the women, but hopefully they dial it down a bit after tonight. We have had enough 3v3 matches for awhile.
I do however have no clue who is going to win. They might just put it on Nikki so she could be "the first ever".

    • Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt:
This has to be the first match in a longer feud. Bray has to win it. I know Orton just lost to Lesnar, but I fell Bray really needs a big victory. I probably won't be clean, but at least it will be a victory.

    • Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz for The Intercontinental Championship:
I have enjoyed the Ziggler character we have seen on Smackdown, and The Miz has been on fire lately. This could be a really fun match, but I do hope they keep the title on Miz. He is one of the best heels in WWE right now.

    • A.J. Styles vs. Dean Ambrose for The WWE Championship
I like Ambrose a lot, but unfortunatly his run with the belt since the split, hasn't really gotten me that excited. On the other side Styles is on a roll, and he feels really fresh. His name needs to on the list of WWE championship winners, and I think it's going on their tonight after a great match. He could carry the belt all the way too mania, for a rematch with Cena.

I actually excited for all the matches (excepts the one with Rawley), and I'm looking forward to show.

  • Here's my impressions!

    • Baron Corbin vs Apollo Crews on the Kickoff
That was actually a good match, and lasted longer than I expected. Logical result with Corbin going over.
Something's bothering me about Crews though: there's been guys like him before, who had it all except "it". And I feel like in this case, the worst thing they can do is keep repeating it over and over again. Keep telling people that a guy has no charisma every time he appears on tv, and even the ones who didn't really mind will start to believe it. And whatever he does will appear unnatural, like he's trying to force a reaction out of the audience.
They should probably not acknowledge that the guy isn't getting a big reaction, and instead try different things, in a subtle way, until they find something that sticks. Unless they're planning to turn him heel, but I doubt it.

    • Six Pack Elimination Challenge for the Smackdown Womens Championship
First, I'll get this out of the way, wow did Alexa Bliss look hot! I've always liked her, but that new look is killer, I hope she sticks with it!
As for the match, great stuff, all six women looked great and strong. I was really disappointed that Alexa got eliminated first, but she showed a lot of great moves and it took a huge combo to put her down, so she shouldn't suffer too much from it.
That Naomi/Natalya botch was sooo embarassing to watch. I'm really losing patience with Natalya, I used to root for her a couple years ago, thinking she was being under-utilized, but honestly she just isn't that good. With the experience she has, she still makes a lot of moves and segments look bad, day in and day out.
Very happy for Becky, she deserves it! Curious to see who will be her first challenger. Since Carmella will probably continue feuding with Nikki, probably Natalya?

    • The Usos vs The Hype Bros
Not much to say, it was a decent match, I think turning the Usos heel was the best thing they could do, although they still had no reaction from the crowd, but I believe it will come with time, especially if they end up getting the belts.

    • Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz for The Intercontinental Championship
I loved that match, it was much better than I expected! Both guys went all out, and I was particularly impressed by the Miz, his heel work is awesome, all the moves stolen from Daniel Bryan were a perfect message, and at the same time showed he could be flashier or more technical if he wanted to, but that just isn't his style.
Don't know where Ziggler will go from there though.
Also did anyone notice that the beginning sequence of the match was pretty much a reproduction of the Punk/Gall match from UFC?

    • Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton Kane
I didn't read anything about it so I don't know is Orton is legit injured or is this was part of the storyline, but it's a shame because I was really looking forward to that one. The match with Kane wasn't a boring as I expected when I saw him come out, guess they made the most out of a bad situation.

    • The Usos vs Heath Slater and Rhyno for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship
Feel good moment of the night! I thought the Usos would win but it would have made the Slater storyline drag on for too long (and we all know how much WWE usually drags their successful storylines for too long...). So this was the perfect ending at the perfect time. The match was good too, Slater was on fire at the end. I still think the Usos will take the titles from them soon enough, and then feud over the title with American Alpha, but we'll see!

    • A.J. Styles vs. Dean Ambrose for The WWE Championship
A very good main event, not as flashy as I expected it to be, but very well constructed, and I had no idea who was going to win. Surprised AJ won actually, they are really pushing him to the moon, and I'm loving it. Shame for Ambrose, but I believe the feud will continue and they might trade the title back-and-forth a couple times.

Overall I thought it was a very solid PPV, and the small amount of matches worked in their favour, because it gave each match a lot of time and they all ended up being very good! Man I'm loving WWE these days!

  • Gotta say I'm happy with all the SmackDown champions at the moment. A good PPV.

  • There's something similar between Huber and Heath Slater, I suddenly connected. Great guys!

  • A really good show! Almost all of the matches delivered.

    • Six Pack Elimination Challenge for the Smackdown Womens Championship:
It was a bit up and down, but overall a really good match. They had some decent spots, and the crowed seemed into the match. For me personally Becky Lynch is the hottest women in wwe, so i'm glad they gave her the title. She also showed some great emotion during the interview segment. I agree with you Axel regarding Natalya. She has been given a lot of opportunities these last few months, and she has basically failed all of them.

    • Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz for The Intercontinental Championship
What a match!? The Miz just continues to impress. Great matches, and great promos. If you had asked me a year ago, I would't have said Miz would ever be world champion again, but damn, the way he is going, it's seems inevitable!
I saw an idea on a wrestling site, that this could lead to Bryan backing a wrestler against The Miz, maybe a former indie star. That could be a fun storyline.

    • Bray Wyatt vs. Kane
So apparently Orton has some concussion issues. Kane as a replacement is fine, but did he really need to win? Sure they gave Wyatt an excused by having him eat an RKO and then a chokeslam, but still.. I would have preferred Wyatt taking the RKO and then the chokeslam, followed by him kicking out and hitting Sister Abigail for a clean win. Then Orton could have looked shocked or something.
Do we really need Kane to look strong in 2016?

    • The Usos vs Heath Slater and Rhyno for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship
A pretty solid effort from both teams, and i'm happy Rhyno and Slater got the win. I can't wait to see what they do with Slater and Rhyno now. I hope they don't just loose the titles on Tuesday.
The eventually feud with The Usos and American Alpha is gonna be great, but i'm going to enjoy Slater and Rhyno for as long as I can.

    • A.J. Styles vs. Dean Ambrose for The WWE Championship
The best solo match Ambrose has had in WWE! A.J just brings the best out in people. A really good match, and definitely main event worthy. I used to watch a lot of TNA back in the day, when I had way more time than I do know. So I'm really happy seeing Styles holding the greatest title in the business.

A very strong first PPV effort from Smackdown!
But you know what is great? Tonight we get to see RAW, and it's a completely different roster. Damn I love the brand split.

  • During the main event on RAW I was wondering about Foley's words that every title would be defended on Clash of Champions and that the U.S. belt has no story going on. Well, didn't take long for that to happen. And honestly, I think Reigns is gonna take it. Which I don't really like. But then again, maybe we'll get some fresh faces as challengers then.

I was suddenly kinda really hoping that Dana Brooke would face Charlotte when that Triple Threat was announced. And she did well there, I saw her in a completely different light. But yeah, Sasha's where she belongs. About Bailey: I just don't see it. I don't know. I'm not on board with her. Too babyface, no edge.

  • @Sentinel-Beach I thought Foley would actually take Rollins out of the championship match to punish him, which would make sense honestly. But that can't happen, there's nobody else who would make a realistic contender at this point, since Reigns is busy with Rusev, Zayn with Jericho, Cesaro with Sheamus...

I wouldn't even mind that much if Reigns won the US title at this point, because at least it would keep him away from the main event, and like you said, we could get some cool new challengers, like probably Braun Strowman.

I get what you're saying about Bayley, I'm not a fan of her character either, but she does put on some great matches! I'm a big fan of Nia Jax right now!

I'm very glad they acknowledged how terrible the Club / New Day segment was last week, and made them look like a credible threat again. Clash of Champions is shaping up to be another great PPV!

  • @Axel Reigns vs. Strowman for the US title would be... something. Braun's a mountain, would put Roman in a different kind of scenario completely. Maybe that story would keep two guys that I'm not that interested in together and that way give room for other feuds.

Nia Jax woke me up by the time she was throwing Alicia from side to side, banging her against that barrier. You don't see that every day. O_o

Concerning the tag team division: I guess I'm just waiting for Enzo & Cass to eventually challenge the Club (thinking they'll win the belts soon). I just haven't been into the New Day for a looong time now already.

  • @Sentinel-Beach Yeah it was really well done with Dana Brooke. I haven't really liked her character, but when she slapped Charlotte I was all in. During the match I hoped she would win.
I'm glad they are still keeping her with Charlotte, so we can get a prober turn from her.

  • Cruiserweight Classic is over, we have a winner. Personally I think the two semi-finals matches were a bit better than the actual final match. And the results?! I mean I was 100 % sure that in the end it would be ZSJ vs. Ibushi, but no. Neither. Wow.

I was left wondering if the language was one factor in that all. Ibushi and Metalik both didn't speak English (at least well, I guess), and WWE needed someone more vocal and capable at this point to represent the new division and speak as the champ. No offence to Perkins, he's really good and all, maybe just a little too cruiserweight prototype or something like that. A little bland to my liking, would've favored Ibushi. But it's all good.

  • @Sentinel-Beach
Yeah I'm not that hyped on Perkins either. He has a good story, and I will look forward seeing him, and his new belt on RAW.

But other than that, is was a great show, and the whole tournament has been wonderful.
A really perfect way of introducing the cruiser weight division again.

Back in the day, it was one of my favorite parts of WWE, so it's awesome it's back.

  • The match of the night for me was Perkins-Ibushi, and I also thought for sure Ibushi would make it to the final - win the whole thing actually.

But you're totally right, I think language is a big factor. When Triple H explained the winner would be the champ, I knew Perkins would win, you can''t introduce a new division and a new title with a guy who needs a translator, that would pretty much ruin the moment.

Great for Perkins, and I'm curious to see who else they will pick to be part of the division. I know a few guys have already been announced more or less officially, but some might also go to NXT. Is there a list somewhere?

  • Is this thread only for WWE?

  • @Joker Preferably, yes. But I don't think it's too serious.

  • I'll keep the New Japan hype to a minimum then.

Loved the CWC and the finals was the best PPV/TV show I've seen all year. Sure there were better matches on certain shows, but for 2 hours? The best 2 hours all year.
