[Official] What are you playing?

  • @dipset said in [Official] What are you playing?:

I'm playing Crusader Kings III because it's on Game Pass. I don't think I'd ever spend $79.99 on this type of game unless I could give it a free chance.

It's quite literally a game that takes place exclusively in menu's. There are menu's inside of menu's inside of menu's and glossaries inside of glossaries inside of glossaries. It's actually insane how much information and just things to click and interact with are on-screen at once.

This fantastic review of Crusader Kings 2 describes it perfectly, as basically a huge spreadsheet you're playing around in

    Youtube Video

3 does take it up a notch in presentation though, the one I've played most by far is Victoria 2 and that is basically looking at a more realistic version of a Risk map.

  • @bard91

See like one minute into that review and I’m laughing so hard. I love the idea of “turning your family tree into a family circle.” I bet you can do so much stuff in CKIII that’ll crack me up, I just have to figure it out.

Good god that video was hilarious. Player ruler wakes up gay one morning, decides to seduce the closet homosexual Pope, has a secret marriage with the Pope which gives him rule over the Holy Empire in exchange for secret sex. This is like ragdoll physics of RNG-goodness. You never know how the dice is gonna roll.

  • Dirt 5, or as it should be called Motorstorm 4

Definitely hits this sweet spot between sim and arcade (bit more on arcade side) in style, presentation and handling.....Still no music when racing though but that's something the series in general suffers from.

or as it should be called Motorstorm 4

My interest has been piqued. The game looks really fun.

  • @bam541
Same I initially wasn't too interested but after hearing it's actually made by Evolution, well I made a pretty last minute order for it

  • @dmcmaster

Wait what?! A) Evolution still exists, and, B) they made Dirt 5?

Does Dirt 5 have the truck vs bike vs dune buggy vs ATV thing going on or is it more like Motorstorm in terms of wild circuits with ever so slightly real racing physics?

FYI, I've only played Dirt 2 because it was hyped up so much but I didn't love it to be honest. I know everybody loves that game, but I felt like the physics were trying to be a real rally game and I just couldn't figure it out. Just checked out Dirt 5 and it kinda looks like a must play. If I had PS5, I'd probably get Demon's Souls and Dirt 5 before anything else.

Played like 3.5 hours of CKIII last night with my buddy who is a veteran of Paradox strategy games. The multiplayer is pure because we can kinda just do our own thing, assist one another. Every time I have a question, I ask him and he can answer.

I LOVE this game. I'm not even doing too bad, I already own the Kingdom of Sicily on my first character who somehow hasn't died.

I imprisoned my sister-in-law for having an affair with my brother-in-law in another county. My brother-in-law, the male mistress, wanted her released so he paid me more in taxes and I let her go. I first tortured her then agreed to the deal. Shit like this cracks me the fuck up. I'm dying of laughter the entire game.

  • @dipset
Yeah Evolution is still around, just rebranded as Codemasters Cheshire. No dirt bikes or ATV's but everything else about Dirt 5 screams Motorstorm

  • @dmcmaster

I think I edited my post right when you replied, but that's exciting as hell. I just checked out Dirt 5 and it looks really fun. Honestly surprised it took me so long to check it out. To me, this looks to be potentially the most appealing muli-platform next gen game besides maybe Cyberpunk which I can't follow the puck on whether that's launching next-gen in December or what?

  • @dipset
It's definitely a close second for my GOTY so far and I've only put like 5 hours in it, and will undoubtedly put more in the next gen version next week. It's just this mix of gameplay and presentation that sorta hooks me.

Also this is probably the most bored I've ever heard Troy Baker in anything.

  • AC Valhalla
Not bad in the 3 hours I've put in, that said climbing so far feels a bit off.

  • @dmcmaster I too have started playing Valhalla and I agree the climbing is rather off as you say. I've got more issues concerning how the story unfold. For instance Ubisoft have had a knack of having emotionless main characters when some substantial event happens at the beginning of the game. When a loved one gets killed off in Unity, Origins and in Valhalla there's no weight to it at all. I generally find the characters to be silly and boring anyway and when there is humour it comes off as the games trying too hard to be charismatic. With that said I have to applaud how Ubisoft opened Valhalla and there are great moments and scenery that do their best to invite you into the world.

  • With the XSX I went back to Forza Horizon 4, as a console (and PC) peasant being able to play it at 4k/60 is pretty sweet. But how fast the intermediate load times are really pushes this game to a 10/10. To me it was already a GOAT title and this removes the only issue this game (and all Forzas) had. Every time I play it I'm always impressed by the quality of the world/level design.

Also they added some more content to the game that I didn't knew about. Really great to comeback to FH4.

Haven't tried the Quick Resume yet but I imagine it will be sweet to just jump in for a couple of races whenever I feel like

  • Currently playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon in the computer room and 13 Sentinels in the living room.

    In Reality: mostly Yakuza.

  • @dmcmaster

    A) I didn't realize you were Hayterfan. Not that it matters, just thought it was two people. I am also GoTaco and might switch back to that name cause idk why I named myself after The Diplomats lol

    B) Troy Baker is clearly high in his living room reading off a Zoom mic.

    C) Otherwise Dirt 5 looks lit.

  • Booted up Blur and played through the first set of races. It's pretty surreal seeing these realistic looking real life cars throwing energy blasts at each other. It's really fun so far, although I still don't get how to properly drift/turn corners. There's also a photo mode in the game, which I would have never expected.

  • @bam541 It's good you're finding Blur a blast to play.

  • @bam541 I played a hit of Blur and a bit of Split/Second recently. I definitely like the sense of speed in Split/Second but man is it hard to make out what the attacks are actually doing. Still, loved my little time with both games. Will return for sure.

  • Decided to check Halo 4 on the XSX. Damn, this is a X360 game!

  • @phbz It's crazy how much better it looks than infinite. Never cared much for the game but damn it's pretty.
