Finally got around to finishing the game, and I really love it! It started pretty slow, but as the world opens up more and I begin to grasp the game's mechanics, it clicked real quick with me. It's not a long game, but I certainly took my time with it, it's been a pretty busy month.
The game's world is filled with fun puzzles and interesting lore, and as you get more abilities through beating the bosses and completing the collectibles in each area, exploring gets quicker and more fun. Also, having a detective vision thing instead of a traditional map is so cool, and I think it's pretty well executed here, since exploring felt much easier to me with that vision, but it's also most useful only at certain times (when I reach higher ground and can see the entire area).
The boss fights start decently with the first boss, but the later ones gets not only more epic in presentation (the soundtrack gets crazy especially, it's such a good OST overall), but also more engaging. It's not the most complex boss fights (think of them as some sort of rhythm puzzle game), but they certainly put up a good challenge since you have to be react/read quick to their actions. Not to mention, each boss fights ends in a pretty touching manner.
I said before that this game reminds me a lot of Fumito Ueda's games, and I think it's a great way to describe this game, since it has the same captivating, brave, and mystical spirit, and it's probably the most pleasant aspect of the game for me. The story presentation also felt similarly minimalistic, aside from the side lore stuff. Honestly it would make so much sense if I see Ueda-san's name somewhere in the credits.
Overall, this was quite the pleasant surprise. I think the game could benefit from more varied puzzles and objectives, but since it's not a very long game, I don't think it's a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Also, the game ran pretty well on my PS4. I'm a few trophies away from the platinum, so I'll be getting those soon. (9/10)
