    • RE: What is/was your favourite online multiplayer game?

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. PS3.

Remastered was okay, but for some reason, the game removes the actual responsiveness of the game. disappointed

Metal Gear Online on MGS4 only needed better controller polish, like it got in MGS5. Good multiplayer experiences, but I just couldn't get into them.

Another one is TitanFall 2. :)

I can't wait. The game looks like Arkham City. I simply, simply, simply cannot wait.

    • RE: Do you think new genres can still be a thing?

Yes, it can. We already are on that way with these Open World games, and Battle Royale games. Eventually, we will come very close to the same vision that's behind "Ready Player One" by Steven Speilberg. (I just saw it, and am impressed with how the future looks for Open World games.)

    • RE: New Consoles?!...Again.

@dipset Don't worry about it. 4k as it is - is very hard to get natively. So, Microsoft and Sony will have to do whatever it takes to get it natively playable. HDR is miniscule that doesn't really "add" to gameplay, it's just one of "that looks awesome" kinda thing.

This time, when I buy PS5 or whatever Microsoft, Google, and yes, apple makes - they will have to convince me that this is "future proofed" and has to convince me that this won't break on me on the first year.

The way Sony, Microsoft, Google, Apple, and yes, Nintendo will have to convince me that the console they're selling is 100% native, and none of this checkerboarding crap from PS4 Pro/Xbox One X. I really don't care how much it costs anymore, just as long as you give me a high quality console that lasts as long as the current PS4/Pro.

I love Sony and PlayStation, but I am very disappointed by PS4 Pro, considering that Sony is the hardware king... I was expecting better than that.

I want the next console to be developed with "passion." It has to show. I expect that this time around.
      @ezekiel said in New Consoles?!...Again.:

I'm confident the PS5 will be backwards compatible. It will be much easier to achieve with X86 than with the weird architecture of the PS3's Cell/RSX. I look forward to playing slideshows like The Last Guardian at 60 fps or even a stable 30 at 4K. Physical games aren't gonna be killed off yet. They make a lot of money still.

However, x86 has some bottlenecks. I was in a conversation with a techie at a tech event early this year and he said x86 IS easy to develop for, but it's technically inferior to anything on the PC market. Most games are locked at 60fps, but it could go higher if Sony allowed it. PS4 Pro for another example still uses x86, but unlocks the fps to a new clockspeed. Hearing that, I felt a bit cheated, ripped off. I still love my PS4, but that doesn't change my disappointment. They fixed the issue later, but I expected better from Sony.

Oh, and don't expect me to buy that shitty streaming box that Microsoft is teasing with scarlett. No way. I am not going to buy into the digital only future.

    • RE: Easy Allies Podcast - Official Discussion Thread

I loved the July 25th podcast because they talked about some games dear to my heart. :) For example, I loooooooooovvve the high praise for Arkham City! I agree that it's the very BEST. The VERY BEST game in the series. It's also the very best licensed game of all time. Besides the original NES game, Batman. :)

When I was watching the gameplay trailers of Spiderman, I was immediately reminded of... the ARKHAM series! :D

While you guys were talking about Octopath Traveler, the gameplay elements you spoke of reminds me of Atelier Iris. I plan to pick up Octopath Traveler at some point, but I really am intrigued by the conversation because I am getting a Atelier Iris vibe in there.

      Fans love the series because

I guess I'm not a fan then, because I love the series because of reasons inspired by Knights of the Old Republic, which is why I don't find it inherently bad to have a more open world game in the universe. The whole EA things sucks more or less cause they promoted a game people were excited to play, then announced they'd be radically changing how said game plays while fucking over yet another studio as EA has a habit of doing. I get people are super bummed out about this, but I'm also not ready to say the game that results from this won't be interesting anymore. If anything I'm more interested in it now, because I'm not a fan of the Uncharted 4 experience.

I'm not a huge fan of the Star Wars universe, but I understand it. I understand why fans love it, because the universe is vast if you really dig into the series. The problem is, film producers nowadays are trying to pander to the fans of the first 3 films - which is why Battlefront 2 includes iconic characters. They want to sell this game to fans of the original Star Wars films.

I like Uncharted 3/4 because of the story, the set pieces, and the experience it gives you. You can do pretty much anything in Uncharted, it allows you to be stealthy, it allows you to run n' gun, it allows you to get caught so you learn where to go next. It's linear in the sense that it tells you to go to B.

We're going to get more Open World games and less story-based, set-pieces. The problem with linear games is that there isn't a way to re-play the game over and over again. That's the fault of the developer; they need to add a little bit more content into the game to warrant the $60 price tag. That's where the problem lies. We often buy single player games, but we never get more out of the $60 experience. Star Wars is a universe that's evolving, and expanding every day - and so, developers need to use the actual content that Disney/LucasArts provides them and/or allows them to use.

I love the God of War series because it's this epic story with set-pieces to show me the next big bang. It's a world that I enjoy exploring, and experiencing, but we're not going to get that experience more often because of the stupid focus testing bullshit that tells corporations the wrong information.

So, I love single player games, and I love open world games, equally. I think they're pretty much the same thing, the only difference is that one is linear, and the other is "do whatever the fuck you want" kind of game.

Same, I think there will always be a place for both.

The whole point of the Star Wars universe, is the story. Always has been, and always will be.

This is where I disagree. When it comes to Star Wars I am a very unique case. I didn't grow up with the original movies. I'm old enough to have, but neither my parents or my friends ever introduced it into my life as a child. Hell, the first movie I saw start to finish was Episode 1, which understandably made me confused as to why people treat Star Wars the way they do. For a long time I kinda thought Star Wars was dumb even, until some video games sparked my appreciation in the franchise.

The Rogue Squadron series was undoubtedly my first real deal dig into the world I enjoyed, which are sorta linear games consisting of missions of gunning down enemies like Star Fox or w/e, but what really sold me on the concept of Star Wars was Knights of the Old Republic. A more open RPG that just lets you loose in the worlds of the franchise, lets you build your character within that world, lets you build your own lightsaber eventually even! It was only through playing that game that I felt like I finally GOT why people love Star Wars so much and felt an appreciation for the franchise grow within myself.

So personally, I'm down for an open world Star Wars game. I think both linear and open world games for that particular franchise have reasons to exist. I wouldn't want to see either of them push the other out of existence, but I believe one can find merit in simply immersing themselves into the worlds Star Wars offers, heavy story focus or not.

I take it you never watched most of the films. Fans love the series because its a story of David vs the Goliath, only in the frame of a "Sci-Fi" genre. David is Luke Skywalker, and Goliath is the Sith group, led by Darth Vader, and later the son. The concept of the story got changed with the Episodes spinoffs which were disguised as prequels. A young kid goes to the dark side because he wanted more power.

A linear game in the vein of Uncharted [4] would do Star Wars justice if it was helmed by the correct team, which Visceral Games was... EA was dumb enough to use "the game was a mess." What a sabotage if it was true. EA doesn't know how to talk to investors from what I've seen of the tweet there. I'm laughing here, because the only thing EA has managed to do is lose money on its own. It won't be long before the current Electronic Arts shuts down.

    • RE: Open World games that capture the sense of emptiness

@Haru17 said in Open World games that capture the sense of emptiness:

Ocarina of Time had a sense of space and didn't force players to trudge across an unreasonable amount of empty fields or ocean. In fact the 3D Zelda game with the least distinct sense of where different locations are in 3D space is The Wind Waker because all of the geography between locations was featureless, flat ocean and all of the islands were so incredibly far off and distant for the sake of loading them in.

Of course it's still a 10/10 game like the other 3D Zeldas IMO because it had enough metroidvanian Zelda stuff buried away on those islands. But that doesn't change the fact that denser games waste your time less and TWW literally, inarguably had nothing to do while crossing the ocean and none of the few random events were procing. You couldn't even look at your map while the boat was still moving.

That's why I love OOT above any other Zelda title. It didn't really feel like a chore to get from A. to B. The game's only problem is that it was too short! :) I wanted more of OOT, than the evolutions that Zelda seem to get. I liked Wind Waker, but it felt like a chore to get from A. to B. I loved the sense of exploration in Waker, but at the same time, it was a chore. The boat section was nice, but it was also a chore. I liked that you battled a few monsters in the boat, that sense of adventure. But it required soo many tasks to get to B. I got stuck in the game because of that chore, I just gave up. I love zelda, but my patience wears thin when it's tested.

    • RE: EA Shuts Down Visceral Games (Deadspace, Amy Hennig's Star Wars game)

I never liked Electronic Arts' licensed games. I rarely, if ever buy them. I don't buy EA games. But when I do, it's something special. EA's Medal of Honor: Frontlines was the last game I bought straight from EA. I bought TitanFall 2, but that's Respawn.

I was hoping for an epic Star Wars game from EA, since they dd a great job with such games in the past. Now? With Visceral gone? Those dreams are gone. I'm with Brandon on his comments towards EA/Closure of Visceral. That press release reads like a corporate speak. I think that Brandon is interested in a story-based Star Wars game.
