I also had an import of Cotton on the Saturn that I sold for a tidy profit. Great that the series is making a comeback and is accessible for everyone. I do wish the collection had all the games though. Hopefully one day we will see the Kieo flying squadron games appear again since we're of the subject of obscure games that cost a small fortune.

I gotta keep the trend going and shout out Mexican food. I hardly consider myself Mexican (I'm only like 20%), but I come from a Mexican family and it's definitely part of my heritage, so it's really like a warm blanket to me. In the holiday spirit, I'll give an extra special commendation to tamales. They're a shit load of work but man are they worth the effort. Edit: This got me thinking about how much I love food, so I'll give a shoutout to my second favorite: Mediterranean. There's this small, hole-in-the-wall place by where I live that makes the best chicken shawarma. I'm forever grateful to Avengers for getting me to try it.

I managed to make a large dent in my Backlog due to me "working from home" most of the year. A few of the highlights were:- Resident Evil 7- Not sure why I waited this long to play this as I'm a fan of the series. I really enjoyed the direction they decided to go & will not make the same mistake waiting on 8. Resident Evil Zero- Another one I put off playing due to middling reviews & the inventory system complaints. Turns out the inventory never bothered me. I enjoyed this just as much as Remake. Rayman Origins & Legends- Fantastic platformers. Controls are tight levels are so inventive. It's a shame Ubisoft has obviously so much talent at their studios who's creativity has been stemmed making copy & paste games every year. Gears of War 1-3. Tried the first game a few times over the years never clicked with me. Finally got through the remasted version that was a bit easier to digest. I still thought I was just okay though, but 2 & 3 are great popcorn blockbuster games. As good as any 3rd person action adventure games as any. Days Gone- Ended up really liking this one on spite of itself. No game should take 20 hours to get good. The first map was a slog. Any other year I would have dropped it but I persevered & the last 20 hours or so was mostly a joy especially once you're powerful enough to take on the hordes.

I haven't played Xenoblade yet, but I think that it matches my feelings towards Persona 5. Basically anything you do has a tangible payoff for both the story of a character or party member, and an enhancement of some mechanic that will in some way benefit the game or a character.

@themarcv Just the buttons and sticks, I'm not about to mod something I spent $500 without having access to a backup. Also Arcade 1Up actually sells replacement boards, so you can technically do that to swap games out.

@dipset I still haven't returned to Gravity Rush 2 after a power outage made me lose 2 hours of progress. That was like 4 years ago.

@themarcv Yeah Virtua Fighter is great. Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder apparently has never been released outside of the arcade so that's kind of cool. I'm hoping the remaining 26 games are a bit more exciting.

Can I just say, I HATE crowdfunding. There are probably hundreds of games I want to see sequels to that will never happen but I still would never pay for until I see reviews. Particularly for indie devs, I believe the fear that a game not succeeding could sink your company is a driver. Without that fear, many would (and I believe have) become complacent or even greedy and they would release (have released) a lesser product because they don't want to dig into the profit they have already made from crowdfunding. I get the impression Koji Igarashi is not that type. They lived up to their promise and delivered Curse of the Moon. You can argue that it was to scrape up more money for Ritual of the Night but, while I never played it, I heard only good things about it. They released a Bloodstained-themed video to apologize for the state of the beta and to clearly identify what they were going to fix for the final release. They are now releasing a sequel to Curse of the Moon that looks equally awesome. Instead of take the money and run, he has decided to not only make good on the crowdfunding campaign but to go beyond and make it into a self-sustaining franchise - as every crowdfunded operation should but so few do. And he will be rewarded with both greater wealth and a lasting legacy not just as the creator of this series but as a champion of crowdfunding and a developer who made it by reviving and believing in what he loved. I honestly can't say how much I admire his devotion to the original Kickstarter and this series.

I've been using NordVPN with mixed results. Speed is terrible to bearable, never good, IMO. In general a lot of streaming services are getting smart about blocking commonly used servers, so I have to click around for 10-15 min sometimes trying to find one that will work. It's not ideal, but it's the only way I can watch Hulu right now so I just deal with it.

I absolutely adored Persona 4 and Persona 5 but it took me months and months to complete those games. I loved it while I was playing it but working 5 days a week makes me tired and all of the reading and dungeon crawling wasn't as stimulating as it should be and I just kept feeling more and more tired. I recently bought FF7 for Switch and got suuuuuuper into it for a hot weekend, then once I had to capture a Chocobo, I realize that I don't want to do any of that bullshit. Time and place man. Every game fits into your life in different ways and JRPGs just aren't doing it right now for you nor me. I could be projecting my personal experience onto you, but I think the personal life progression element might partly be why its tough to enjoy these types of games as much.

@phbz I'm in so much agreement. When you make smaller levels you have to deliver more of them, which means you have to be more creative. And the best part is none of them are too small.

Hitman 2 - only a year old but still needs to be on my list. Such a treat. I will head back in soon I think so I can try out the DLC. Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - so good. I'm not sure why I didn't pick this up closer to release but I'm glad I finally got around to it. A little easy towards the end but I guess it's not as easy for them to create challenge in 2D games? Red Dead Redemption - As a lover of GTA, I am not sure why I had near-zero interest in this one at launch. While I did tire by the end of the story, I really enjoyed this world. And it still looks incredible. Time to finally start the copy of RDR2 I have had since June!
