RE: No. 1 Most Hyped Game
C'mon. If you want to talk about hype from this E3, there is no equal. We all just want to know more about FIFA story mode... Just Kidding.
God of War. Only would have been interested if it were either a new protagonist or some reborn Kratos. But the grizzled older Kratos is definitely better than my ideas. Not to mention, Norse mythology is one of my favourite pantheon. So interested to see where it goes.
RE: Constructive Feedback: Equality, Diversity and Sexualization in Games
This thread shows why this is such a hard topic to discuss. As soon as there is an opposed opinion to someone's post, everybody feels the need to immediately retort and prove the comment wrong. In these styles of stubborn arguments, apparently the person with the last word is the only one who's correct. What's the harm in having different opinions. I remember acting the same way when "The Console Wars" were in full swing last generation. "Why would play PS3 when you can't play Halo?" And you know what happens? Nothing. Nobody changes their mind from a single comment. The only constructive thing you can do when you have an opposing opinion is to simply lay it out. No mud-slinging. No ganging up. Say what you think and let everybody else gobble it up how they please. Acting like an idiot towards someone you consider a bigot, only proves to others how you are also a bigot.
RE: Why is the new Zelda special?
The most frustrating thing about Zelda at this year's E3 is that it consumes all "casual" attention from everything else. A buddy of mine, who doesn't follow gaming news as intense as most of us, texted asking about E3. He says he is excited for Zelda. I say sure it looks good. I know he doesn't have a WiiU but does have a PS4, so I ask him about Death Stranding. And he reply's with: "?", then goes on to talk more about Zelda.
Its just so disappointing to find people so absorbed by a game because of pedigree. It is a good spring board, and the game does indeed look good. But for people with a narrower window into the gaming news world, it blots out the sun. And this honestly harshens my own opinion on the game. As in "It better be 10/10 for distracting people from all the real announcements." (not that I think this... yet)
RE: Selective Creation (Derived from Kill Your Babies!): Create a top 25 N64 list!
- Perfect Dark

4. Mario Kart 64
My friends and I still play this game today. And don't count us as the types who don't play modern games, Mario Kart 64 is just timeless, nothing like it in my eyes.
RE: Mass Effect: Andromeda (PC/PS4/XB1)
God, I'm so glad I ignored the outcries on this game. Just picked it up this weekend and its exactly what I want. Awesome exploration and freedom that the originals left as tight little trail in some cases. And the skill and profile mechanics are to die for. Some really solid WRPG design. But I'm only 15 hours in, so we'll see where it goes. But if people liked Fallout and other recent open world games, I think this sci-fi setting is great addition to your docket.
RE: Unfinished games thread
Last of Us - Ummm... this one is awkward. Maybe something I want to send in to L&R later. Let me know if I should. Anyways, I got up to a point maybe a quarter of the way through. Something came up. I got sidetracked. Put the game down.
After a while, people would tell me how good the game is. Just extraordinary. And me, in disbelief and dismissal, would try to think back on the parts I remember. And the parts that I remember tasted so sour. Honestly the most generic zombie-like activities, such as: getting bitten and not telling anyone, and fixing up a car that will only take us 5 miles out before something goes wrong, etc.
BUT THEN! I saw the trailer for Last of Us Part 2 at Paris Games Week 2017. No infected. No stereotypes. This was the best trailer for Last of Us 1 ever. How come nobody told me this game wasn't actually about the infected, but about the people?
So, sold on playing LoU 1 for the people and not for the zombies, I've started again and caught up to where I left off. I can tell you, the "zombie-ness" still feels bland, but it is really just a setting. Same way the apparent blandness of the wild west might turn people off of Red Dead. But its just about the characters baby.
Anyways, will probably finish the game and submit to L&R soon. Maybe ask the allies, or even you guys here if you've had the "set the game down because it became uninteresting", only realize you actually enjoy it more than you thought when you later pick it up.
RE: Warcraft The Movie
To me this interview really encapsulates why it has such a low score on rotten tomatoes. It is this pompous attitude towards movies that come from video games.
Also, to your point about "no resolution". This is actually one of my favourite things about this movie. It gives me a sense that there is and always will be conflict between the Alliance and the Horde. The best story beats throughout the franchise have been when some greater evil unites these factions in some way. #WC3
What Game Are You 100% Sold On.
Doesn't have to be a hot topic game revealed at E3. Could be AAA or indie. Could be far in the future or coming out soon. Could brand new IP or a symptom of sequalitis. Just that one game that at this point could do no wrong. Doesn't matter how well you think it will be received.
For me its Horizon: Zero Dawn. This game could be a half-star game. It could be broken to no repair. But when it comes out, I'm in it. Its just the world and the atmosphere. Its got me hooked.
RE: Franchises gone awry?
Borderlands, if Gearbox is not careful.
Borderlands 1 was great.
To me, a world filled with freaks where the main characters are level-headed is a big Thumbs-up! (Gearbox: "Oh! People like crazies!") Proceeds to add the craziest goddamn characters in the Sequels. Fine, but at least we still have some characters that are normal.
Then Battleborn? (shudders) Why is everybody on acid? Just stop.
To me, if Borderlands 3 is just more of Gearbox's style, its doomed.
