    @Gr4ndM4rsh4ll

My dad got me an NES when I was but a wee lad, and I've been hooked to games ever since. A few college buddies and I got together and formed a tiny YouTube channel called Random Respawn. We;re terrible at keeping things updated, but we do drop some stuff every now and then.

Pretty much the only types of games I don't gravitate towards are more simulation and sports games. For everything else: if it's fun, then I'm in.

    • RE: Titanfall 2 beta on PS4 and XB1 now

So I have had absolutely no experience with Titanfall since I don't know an Xbone, but I had a buddy of mine play the hell out of it when it first came out. From what I heard, it sounded like a blast, but the game sadly died off pretty quickly. When I found out about the test for this, I figured I might as well see what I was missing (or at least see if they continued in the direction that my friend described).

Well, after about a couple dozen matches or so, I came out of it with one big feeling: meh.

My thoughts are going to be all over the place, so bear with me.

I played mostly the Bounty mode (where you can fight all the AI dudes) with the occasional other mode every now and then, but I gotta be honest, the game felt incredibly empty without them. I'm honestly not entirely sure why Respawn thought it was wise to essentially REMOVE the grunts all together from the other modes considering the maps are basically tailored around having large amounts of guys fighting with pilots sprinkled in for good measure. What's worse is now with Bounty, all of those poor grunts are just shoved into one area of the map, turning it into a damn turkey shoot to gain cash to hand in.

Suffice to say, I basically ignored them and went straight for the pilots to deny them their cashflow, THEN turned around to shoot the moving targets. Coupled with becoming one with the movement system, I became a killing machine, and this isn't even with my roving mech watching my six.

Speaking of the mech, I learned the best strat is to simply call it in (make sure you have the enhanced leathality battery perk) and then just have it follow you wherever you go. Most pilots will bee line towards your mech (I picked Scorch for that lovely AOE to rack up the grunt kills) and completely ignore the fact that you're even there shooting them. When I was in the mech, I just felt too slow (again, was playing Scorch the whole time), so I figured it was faster with me out of the mech while I zipped around on walls. Plus, if I killed any pilots with batteries on them, I would just grab them, hop back into my mech to give it health, then IMMEDIATELY bail out and continue my merry way murdering.

Overall, this is most certainly not the game my friend played back in OG Titanfall. This is, to me, a weaker CoD BlOps 3 that has mechs for killstreak rewards. There's no way in hell this game is going to succeed if they continue with the launch in October (I think it's October?). All that will happen is BF1 will bleed any potential users, and the game will die.

    • RE: PS3 Game Suggestions for a Non-Gamer

I'd also second Journey as well. I think the devs of that game also made Flower (never played but I heard it's pretty cool too)?

She says she doesn't like FPS games, but maybe she might dig third person instead? Last Of Us, Uncharted series, that might be a good starting point.

How about puzzle games, even if it's in a first person perspective?

    • RE: Worst "lost my save" moment you've had

My most recent moment was when Valkyria Chronicles came out for the PC a little while back. I was so pumped to play it, I went 8 hours straight, called it a night during a tricky stealth mission, and completely forgot that I had to manually save the game.

Yes, I went 8 straight hours not saving, and I lost all of that progression. Haven't touched it since that little debacle.

    • RE: Games That Don't Exist (but Really Should)

I'll throw my hat into the ring and say that a Sid Meier's Pirates game that plays a lot like Assassins Creed Black Flag minus the assassin bullshit. Make the boat combat and boarding actions a little less arcadey and more realistic, and maybe even throw in some troop management stuff from the Mount and Blade series to boot.

Add in some of the best water physics and graphics you can get, and it'll sell like mad.

    • RE: When the Hype Becomes Too Real

@SabotageTheTruth The things that truly bothers me the most is that just like Taken King, the Lords of Iron dlc is just going to throw away all of that content to put you into an area even smaller than before. It makes sense to do that for Destiny 2 because, hey, it's an entirely new game.

If this game was just a more expansive and intense version of Borderlands, I would probably never leave the game. Instead, they're stuck in this weird pseudo MMO-lite style of progression with no discernible direction, a direction that continues to remove older content instead of just adding on to it. It's overall very worrying.

"Oh man, Destiny is going to be one of the best games ever." - me while purchasing a white PS4.

I'm so disappointed at myself for that. I bailed ship about a week before the first dlc dropped when I found out you had to purchase it to keep playing the Vanguards strikes and the Nightfall. I came back way later when I was gifted a copy of the Taken King, but holy hell it's still a big mess.

    • RE: Titanfall 2 or Battlefield 1?

I'm still waiting for Bad Company 3, but if Battlefield 1 plays more like BC2, then I might hop on.

Though to be honest I'm actually much more interested in the new CoD, especially after that demonstration during the Sony conference.

    • RE: Is Kratos Odin?

Judging by that quote from the interview, we definitely need to take into account of the end of God of War 3. Last I remember, he stabbed himself with that big ass sword in order to release the gods' powers on to the land (thus releasing everything else that was in pandora's box). With that power released, all remaining gods, including whatever Athena turned into, lost essentially all of their power. This would mean an age of strange monsters, humans, and gods wondering around the earth together in some weird transition period from one mythology to the next.

I have actually been chatting with a friend over that demo, and we both came to the conclusion that Kratos does seem to be Odin. He may not necessarily be Odin yet, but by the end of the game, he will take that mantle and rule over Valhalla. I mean, he is the end all be all god of war in this universe; it would just make sense that Kratos, of all people, ends up presiding over what is essentially "warrior heaven."

Now, if he's Odin, then that son of his has to be Thor. He has lightning powers, and if he gets Kratos' power, he'll be able to call his weapon back at any time. If Kratos becomes Odin and ends up watching over Valhalla by the end of the game, then this series will switch to Thor child (that will grow up for the sequel) who will watch over humanity. Thematically, it might makes sense because this does look like a redemption story for Kratos a la Red Dead Redemption; he does his best to become a better person, learning from his mistakes, ultimately dying in the process (only this time the son won't fall into the same trap his father did).

If we get to this conclusion, determining how it plays out will definitely be a big question.

I'd wager Thor would end up having to kill Kratos like how they killed that deer in that demonstration. The son hesitates to put and end to a dying Kratos, and Kratos helps him the exact same way. I would also wager (from the little angry fit Kratos had when his son shot too early and the rage meter built up) that Kratos is going to lose his cool, lose absolute control over himself, and cause the blades of chaos to come back. I would hope that the game would then immediately switch back to an original God of War style camera and combat system, just for this one part only.
