Some announcements that would be cool:
Resident Evil 3 Remake
Armored Core 6
Has anybody played "Shakedown: Hawaii" yet? I am curious to hear some thoughts on it.
My initial thoughts so far on "Darkwood" (for PS4): avoid until this gets a patch. I've been playing this for a few hours today and the frame rate gets worse as the game goes on, bordering on unplayable. The game also freezes for about a second or so during certain intervals (such as entering new areas). I also tried to exit my game and the game froze on me. I'm playing on base PS4.
UPDATE (5/23): Darkwood's issues have been patched. It runs pretty good now.
I'm very interested to see how this turns out. I like the overall style and I am glad they are making many improvements. My biggest concerns though, which have been concerns since the beginning, are enemy death-animations and overlong text-dialogue segments.
@sabotagethetruth Very nice!
Talking about console ports, "Darkwood" is also getting a PS4 release, coming out May 14th.
Also coming out for Xbox One on May 17th and Nintendo Switch sometime in May (Wiki says May 16th but I haven't found an official release date video)
It depends on the game I think. The games that have lasted me the longest this generation (on a single play-through) have been the From Software games and Metal Gear Solid V, and I really enjoyed my time with those. The only times where length became an issue for me this gen was with "Minit" and "Little Nightmares", both of which I wanted to last longer than they did. Both of those games had interesting worlds to explore and I wanted more things to do in those worlds.
Tarantino had given a talk about his research about cinema in the 70's, and I believe some of the points he made are probably the driving elements behind "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". I think a central theme of the film will be the fall of "Old Hollywood" and the emergence of "New Hollywood".
July 26 marks the release of Quentin Tarantino's 9th feature film project, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie.
Is everyone excited? Are expectations high?
Although I feel that "The Hateful Eight" was not received as well as "Inglourious Basterds" or "Django Unchained", I personally think that it was stronger than both of those films and perhaps even maybe my favorite Tarantino film to date. I thought that Tarantino's grasp on the visual elements were strong and he did a good job composing the frame for the ultra-wide ratio. I also appreciated the aspect of putting all of the characters on an equal level; there were arguable no heroes in "The Hateful Eight", which made the film closer to Tarantino's 90's works (I believe Tarantino works best with this type of set-up). My expectations for this film are pretty high as I am very excited to see how he follows up "The Hateful Eight". My biggest concern is how Tarantino is going to handle this subject material, as he is dealing with a story based on real people and situations. Easily my least favorite Quentin Tarantino movie is "Inglourious Basterds" (I know I am in the minority here), and so far that has been his only film dealing with historical figures.
But overall, I am definitely excited to see how this turns out and I will hopefully be in line on day one.
I have been pleased with the responses on most of my threads. I really appreciate that posters took the time to write thoughtful responses to my "Are We in a Golden Age of Videogames?" thread, as it was one that took me a while to compose. It always feels good to see lengthy, thoughtful responses and the activity in that thread alone made me feel more confident in this forum.
It can be confusing when trying to make threads about smaller games though. Before I made my "New and Upcoming Indie Games" thread, I was about to make a thread just dedicated to the first game that I listed, but after thinking about it, I figured it wouldn't be the most fruitful path. I'd love to see more discussion dedicated to "indie" games, but I am not sure how to go about it just yet.
I think news topics would have good potential outside of the news-specific thread. I'm also surprised to not see more movie discussion topics in the General Topic area. Maybe I will start a thread and see how it goes.
