Challenge mode hype in 2 days.
Too bad that no other allies seem to be playing. Going to be interesting if the mode forces people to optimize way more. Hard mode was kind of pretty easy once you get enough Personas to really build out your kit from there it's just a question of resources(money). Since I feel like I have a really nice grip on the systems I hope the difficulty at least forces frequent Persona switches.

      @TokyoSlim

I really liked the dungeons. Don't expect dark souls level design or anything sophisticated like that. Instead every dungeon has a very strong theme and is hand crafted and has unique gameplay gimmicks to them + way more story events interwoven into them. For me it was quite exciting going through each of them the first time around. They also feel quite different from each other.

Only thing for me was and this has more to do with the way I played is that the dungeons are pretty long and since I was optimizing for a 100% Slink run I tried to finish most dungeons in the shortest time possible.

Aside from the main story dungeons there is a randomly generated dungeon with tons of floors but the story gates your progress through that one + rushing through floors is rather painless. Personally it never came close to wearing me out like Tartarus.

Also wanted to mention the "stealth" elements. Listening to people talk about them I believe they misinterpret the gameplay intention behind them criticizing how they're kind of lackluster as stealth mechanics. And I would fully agree with that but to be honest I don't think that what they are intended to be. They are more like tools for players to speed up the pace traversing and getting into encounters(no more time wasting trying to walk behind enemies to get the initiative hit, the flow from enemy to enemy is just way more fluid). The stealth is just kind of the how its presented. That said the context sensitivity for this system is not quite perfect and sometimes it won't quite do as you intended to so it can kind of put you in Assassin Creed like situations because of that.

No questions, would just like to state that I hate you very much, and I'm unbelievably jealous of you.

And any spoilers will be met with infinite rage  .

Was a long road until this day. Persona gave me the motivation and drive to learn the language started really drilling Kanji about the same time P4G hit in Japan. :P I can only say if people start now they're probably going to be ready when P6 hits.

I have been waiting for this thread! Not played it yet but I've been watching some streams and am totally impressed. What's your overall thought on the game?

Well first and foremost don't expect anything crazy. It's still Persona, P5 doesn't introduce anything crazy that you wouldn't expect from a gameplay perspective but in my humble opinion it doesn't need to. It just refines the Persona experience to make it more smooth, faster and stylish and it all comes together and makes playing the game feel a lot better. Gameplay is just improved all around I'd say the jump overall feels about as big as going from the original P3 to P4G(to me that's quite ton of refinement). It really can't be understated how all the little things come together and make the turn based combat and general system tinkering really nice. Slinks also have gameplay elements where unlocking certain ranks really brings game changing benefits.

Story is hard to talk about it's so subjective what speaks to everyone and what doesn't but I will say the themes they put at the center of this game resonated with me a lot. Playing through the story made me go through quite the range of emotions.
Also SLinks and characters in general are pretty grounded this time around.

For me personally this the best Persona game to date, so definitely my GOTY.
But I totally expect that this will not be everyone's opinion the same way some people prefer P3 over P4 cause the P3 main story just speak more to them despite P4 being superior gameplay wise and having far better writing for the Slinks(like do people remember the terrible P3 wanna bang my teacher and french caricature Slinks?).

So all in all I think people that just wanted more new Persona after 8 years will be extremely happy. People that wanted the series to take a leap similar to what P2 to P3 was might end up slightly disappointed.

Also I finished the game with 100% Slinks on my first playthrough blind, meaning that if you're optimizing it's lenient enough that you can do it P4G full 100% runs in comparison were way more strict.

So finished this recently and was wondering if any allies have been playing as well?
Also happy to answer any questions in a spoiler free fashion.

    • RE: Yakuza 5 on ps+

Lost my life to this game holy shit it's so goddamn good..... especially the story surprisingly.

I'm the person that totally was all for an SMT retro before the P5 release.
But screw that man. Yakuza deserves, no needs one. Srsly this series is like Trails, needs to be played by more people.

Need to get the word out more.

Pretty sad we're only getting a single stream out of this beta.
Beta made me go from wait and see to def day 1 buy.
Hope more allies got the chance to play and speak about it on Frame Trap.

Mine was Dark Souls born out of a bet with a friend about who could plat it first for a crate of beer. I won the bet in the end but it send me down the dark road of considering platting every game I really enjoy if it isn't too insane(DS3 almost was that).
So far I did every Souls game + BB as well as a lot of JRPGs I enjoyed tons.

Started playing this recently anyone got any good resources(streams, youtubes, reddit posts) for improving? Not to worried about the basics beginner stuff more looking for maybe advanced mechanics, or in depth commentary of good players.

    • RE: The International 2106

You're free to not reply and project a bunch of stuff on my post like I don't mean Love and Respect or how I'm passive aggressive. I mean I would have rather not replied but I do feel like this needs to be straightened out when you accuse me of so many things in your last post.

First of all if my posts in any way came off in a way to encourage this behavior I apologize nonetheless. I will say that I'm no English native speaker so I will say that it's definitely possible for things not coming off in a way that I intended them to.

That said when I read these post again you're the one that started being all condescending questioning if I have the correct game knowledge, etc. while giving rather shallow explanations that I just don't think anyone that's clearly above me in knowledge would give(based off on talking with far higher ranked friends).

It's just crazy to me to get hung up on the most superficial impacts on changes and in the same breath not even understanding what I mean when I say the support game has become way more dynamic when it wasn't that long ago when a friend spend like 30 minutes to educate me on the impact that windlace has for the early game.

You provide no background to your knowledge so of course I'm going to doubt you, there is not malice in that. That's really about the only thing I did doubting your information while providing background to my own and definitely reserving the possibility of lacking the right information.

As for unpleasant or blame shifting not my intention but the facts are you were the one starting being condescending, the one trying to dodge the conversation once I raised doubts and it got hard(and somehow interpreting that as passive aggressive), somehow telling me that I'm not sincere in my Love & Respect(cause I am I say it as a reminder that we always should try to be more empathetic in every discussion, it seems I failed on that front for you to act this way) while in the end just resorting to the shut everything down tactic and talk about how this is turning ugly.

To be honest this just feels like the standard routine of an ugly forum conversation(I mean how can it not be when you end your last post in a bunch of accusations that are just not based in reality instead of addressing my doubts) born out of one party needing to be right more than needing to be understood.

At least that's how I felt about this conversation and that's after reading everything twice.

Nevertheless I do want you to know Love and Respect sincerely even if you don't believe me in the end it's just silly forums squabbles and I want to believe mostly born out of the lack of the usual safeguards you have when talking face to face like inflection and face expressions and the reactive nature of posting.
I hope future discussions will be more amicable.
