Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed, he's got cool powerful moves but the hair looks stiff and weird, almost last gen.
@el-shmiablo Yeah I haven't played it myself but I assumed that was the case. It's unfortunate for the platform, once Nintendo finally gets lots of third party support then their platform gets versions that are lacking enough to make people choose other versions instead (except for those that prefer the portability of course).
I hope they follow up the Switch success with a beefier platform somehow. But since the success is mostly based on the portability I fear that they've kind of trapped themselves into a corner. And with their comment to leave it to the others to fight in the red sea, or something like that, it's easy to assume that they aren't even interested in power enough to be relevant for those that prefer the normal stationary gaming.
@el-shmiablo Doesn’t Doom on Switch mainly get praised for being relatively close to the other versions and for being portable? This will make me sound like a performance snob but I certainly wouldn’t choose that version myself for anything but the portability if that’s really important to me, as with all multiplats on Switch.
But we have no other option here and that’s my main issue about console exclusives in general, usually no settings to tweak things and no PC version for those who prefer better framerates. We’ll just have to accept it or ignore it (which isn’t really an option here which is why I’m grumpy :P)
But oh well. It is what it is. I’m just grumpy about it, not much to talk about I guess.
As for Spidey being automated, it looked like that at first but now I think it looks pretty much like any other open-world game and the fighting is something I’m positively surprised about :) Now it looks almost like some Just Cause play-ground with how the web slinging is used on the scenery and objects to battle the enemies. This is actually what’s getting me the most hyped right now. Looks great!
@ib0show I don’t doubt the percentage, at least not when asking console gamers, but that doesn’t mean I’m personally fine with that switch. To give some background to my thinking on this, the only reason PC gaming is still 1080p only for me is because 4K/144hz/gsync just isn’t happening for a triple screen setup at this point. So, 30fps is very far from ”fine” from my point of view :P It’s okay for slower games though.
Edit: I’m a console gamer who eventually caved in and bought a PC and got spoiled by higher refreshrates and struggles to adapt to what’s still the norm on console no matter how powerful the consoles get. I thought Pro and X would fix things but the devs are just switching pretty graphics to high resolution and ”waste” all the extra power there instead now.
This is just my grumpy self talking here, I don’t expect people to share my view on things. I do hope next gen can go further with framerates once 4K is no issues. But with my luck they’ll just start aiming for 8K then... sigh

It’s strange, Naughty Dog pushed hard for 60fps at the start of the generation, almost mocked those who prefered 30fps when they talked about TLOU remaster, then a few years later they too went 30fps on everything and I assume TLOU2 is 30fps too.
But ND has mostly made slow paced games, it was okay in both UC4 and LL even for me who’re usually bothered by the 30fps stutter.
I think Insomniac are pushing things a bit too far since they’re going for speedier gameplay, Sunset Overdrive certainly didn’t look too hot in motion from my point of view and Spidey is looking even faster. So I’m not sure about this. I don’t like when games looks worse in motion than still shots ( which is usually the case when they’re faster since the details will either get lost in stutter or motion blur or both ).
@axel I think it comes a bit too late and they showed it off too early, and they should’ve tried getting it done til Homecoming released, the hype is still there but it could be better. The game looks great though! Personally I’m mostly annoyed at the exclusivity when they aren’t pushing things further with the framerate, it would be awesome to get it on PC and boost the framerate. But maybe they’re doing a next gen port too? PS5 isn’t far off from what I’ve heard.
@sabotagethetruth Wow that’s embarrassing... This is the way things are, if you do something that becomes hugely popular then obviously others want to eat from that cookie as well, happens in all industries. Just man up and keep improving the game so it’s always the best and the clones are just bad clones. Suing is such a low blow. And they likely won’t win that case either, and if they do they’ll just damage their reputation. It’s a lose-lose scenario.
@bam541 Don’t blame the hardware, the Pro (and base PS4) can handle 60fps just fine, it’s all about how you’re using the resources you have, Insomniac simply prioritized pretty graphics over smooth motion, again. Looking at the traversal video above makes me question why because with that speed, stutter and motion blur you can’t see those pretty details anyway. It’s a strange design decision in my opinion. But I’m sure we’ll see plenty of pretty photo mode still shots and small 30fps gifs, so that’s something I guess.

I might be harsh here but to me it’s really annoying to see so many console exclusives stumble on the finish line. Always looks amazing but always stutters. And we know Insomniac can do 60fps with nice graphics going by their R&C games, they just need to know it’s still requested I think.
It’s weird when you start thinking about it, so much power but the industry in general seem to think console gamers simply don’t want 60fps anymore, it’s all about resolution and photo mode visuals. And I mean almost all PS4 exclusives except GTS is 30fps, what’s up with that?? And with no PC version to fix things we’re simply forced to just accept it. Even God of War is 30fps this time I believe. Definitely disappointing.

Hype through the roof and all that but 30fps even on Pro is disappointing when the movement is this fast. Look at the stuttering in the fast web traversal segments in the videos (which I assume are 30fps?).
To be fair though, Sunset Overdrive was 30fps too and had the same stuttering and was still considered okay. But Spidey moves so much faster. They seem to have added some motion blur this time to fix it but I’m not sure it helps going by the clips, just seem to make it look blurry.
@tokyoslim I'm especially amazed at the fighting, looks super-fun! The traversal looks great too but kinda stuttery in that video, I wonder if it's because of the video editing or if they're going with an unusually low framerate for that speedy gameplay? Is there any info out regarding that? I haven't read up on the technical details, 60fps is probably too much to ask for but they've done it many times before so who knows.
@el-shmiablo Cool! I’d love to play it on the Xbox One X but I’m way too invested in the Steam version with 300 hours played. Add a way to sync up the Steam save to the Xbox and I’d be there day 1. Anyone who hasn’t played it yet should not hesitate one bit, the game had a bumpy launch but it’s great now, one of my favorites the last couple of years, not even close to deserve the hate it and the devs gets online.

Didn't know you got to keep them forever on 360 though, that's pretty awesome to be honest, I boycotted the whole thing last gen since online was free everywhere else. I've been lured to pay for Gold this generation though but I don't play online so I should probably end the subscription. Initially I thought cloud saves and Play Anywhere were Gold features but that's available without Gold too, right?
Sounds like it’ll be a disappointment at least going by the talk on NeoGAF 1 and 2.0. Bummer for MS. The foundation is great but from day 1 of the announcement I thought this needed a single player campaign, hopefully Rare understands now that a multiplayer/coop sandbox isn’t enough and they’ll do a 180 and relaunch it as a SP game within a year.
@sonmi Generally speaking I agree, guest characters simply doesn't fit in the universe, the story gets weird, shoe horned :P But I think they made a great job with Geralt, he looks, moves and sounds just like he should, and it's cool that he's got sign magic as special attacks too!
@dmcmaster From my understanding it’s just the end of the origins story, the story for how she became how she was in the pre-reboot games, so I assume (hope!) that they’ll continue making Tomb Raider games for many years to come, possibly with the adult badass Lara we all love who owns a huge mansion and spend her days searching and collecting historical artefacts in dangerous places just for the fun of it.
The marvelous Dagger of Xian really makes me want that type of game! :)
