    • RE: How do you feel about the security issues Europe is facing

@Sazime said in How do you feel about the security issues Europe is facing:

I feel like a gaming forum is the last place I want to hear any more about it.

Asides from this being the General discussion area. For many of us, forums are the best place to have serious discussion.

Forget about the toxic dump that is social media. Here on forums, you have a sense of community. Comment sections don't get filled quickly where your well thought out opinion gets lost as easily. In the midst of spammers, movie links, and the same tiring memes like 98 bulls references for the sake of likes. And not just that. Its important that we have a variety of discussion topics available to build this community. And for the people affected by the recent tragedies, to know that there's people across the world that are concerned about their well being.

    • RE: Cross-platform play

I think cross play is very important for gaming communities. Particularity for games that have low player counts that split between platforms. Could easily cause an earlier shutdown.

But I think the issue is more broader, than what media outlets and select gamers are making it out to be. This hasn't been done before on such a propsed scale. Like, how do you ban cheaters on a Live account. When the complaint is from a PSN user ? What systems and transparency is in place to investigate such claims. If anyone's account information is compromised, how wide can it spread. What other legal issues have to be sorted out and so forth. Things like this require intense negotiations.

Well as you just saw in another thread, JaKandDaxter is here. Be around since 2009, to GT's final day on the internet.

I really would love to change my PSN ID. My ID isn't bad by any means. But I have since preferred to be called another name online, that being Jak.

My current ID, was largely made because I couldn't think of something better when I was 16 years old.

    • RE: Last game you finished

@Faaip If you like Lord of the Rings, SoM should appeal to you. I got the GOTY edition for 10 dollars on PSN. And it can't be more than 20 now. So its a low risk investment. And tons of fun to be had with excellent combat mechanics killing orcs largely.

I say give it a go. Its cheap, and rederoin has also gotten hooked to SoM. As you might have seen in the Escapist chat group.

    • RE: Polygon looking for reviewers

      @SabotageTheTruth
I do agree that this thread did get slightly off topic. Some posts more than others. As how credible Polygon is as a workplace does hold some merit. Even though it got a bit excessive.

However, it does show that the community is capable of a civil disagreement. No reason for anyone to act like WWIII broke out over what is a petty disagreement. And personally, that's what drove me to post here. Seeing people upset that a 24/7 jolly theme wasn't sustained, is not the end of the world. And far from being the beginning of the end for this community.

A relative asked me to get Wildlands to play with him. So I rented a copy. And one day of playing with two him and clan buddies of mine. Gives me the feeling we could be playing this for a chunk of the summer.

My mom ended up buying me this game for helping around the house. Will say the deluxe edition, is probably the worst extra $20 in bonus content. Other than the XP booster. The gun and stuff is practically garbage.

    • RE: How long have you been an ally?

I joined GameTrailers back in 2009, and enjoyed the final years of its golden age per se. When GT was holding its ground against YouTube for user generated content. The forums were bustling with activity, and factions/blogs provided additional hours of entertainment and discussion. I left after the 2011 redesign, and came back about 2 years later. To which I stayed with what remained of the community until the very end; when IGN shut down GT. And made every GT link redirect to the YouTube channel.

Just under 40 of us still communicate with each other in a chatroom on another site.

    • RE: What other video game sites do you frequent?

I use escapistmagazine.com primarily for the group chat function. That I share with a number of former GT members. And I use the IGN forums for its basketball community. Other than those, I hope to have a nice time here. Its tough to find a home on the internet, but this site seems like its on to a good start.

Not interested in joining any other major sites out there. For many reasons, such as forum layout, the actual community, and moderation level not being what I look for site. The latter discourages former GT comrades from signing up. And one thing I'm happy of, is to see old GT members here.

    • RE: What's Your Passion Project?

I will like to buy a nice piece of land. No more than an acre, probably half an acre. And build a small, custom modular home on that land.

It will be based on the small home movement. Of smaller than average homes, to save on energy costs. Lower mortgage and tax payments. Maximize every inch of space, as why pay thousands for space you don't use or need. Which will also force my family to prioritize what do we really need and have space for when shopping. Saving additional money that can be invested elsewhere, such as fun and educational experiences.

@The_Andredal said in Separate Gaming discussion from... everything else?:

i would like to have sub forums as well. Like Console and PC discussion. Maybe retro as well

At current activity levels, separating the community even more with additional sub-forums is going to hurt activity. Gaming discussion isn't even that active. Breaking it off into more sections, is going to slow down site traffic. Due to threads being less active, as people naturally won't be checking every section on a daily basis.

And this site is way too small to successfully keep a Retro section active. Even on GT when activity was at its peak; the Classic section wasn't that active. And a Retro section here, will be largely dead in less than a month.

    • RE: What is your opinion on Battlefield 1

@Light Bad Company 2 undoubtedly had an excellent multiplayer (loved the campaign too). So much, I didn't mind playing by myself. And it seemed easier to get classes to a competitive point than BF4. So I have to say your right with how well designed those BC2 maps were for rush.

    • RE: Which RE games are worth playing?

Code Veronica is good to play through for the story. As the Veronica events are referenced in later games. Although be warned the Veronica HD version is still pretty dated. Shooting mechanics are garbage, and the worst of the series I played. Many areas also have pretty bad lighting. And you best look at a walkthrough. Because there's no difficulty selection and its one of the harder and more frustrating games of the series. And people have been forced to start all over with a new game, because they wasted too many items and ammo.

But yes, play all the number series. Can't really comment on Revelations, but I've heard good things.

    • What was one of the most challenging/stressful moments in your life

For me, when I think of a very stressful time of my life. My time in college always come to mind. It was a big jump from High School, work expectation wise and more time demanding. Fortunately I did take some college courses in my last year of high school. To prepare and show me what was going to be expected of me as a college student.

But that turned out to be half of the problem. The other half was how socially isolated I was going to be for most of my time in college. I went to a good school. But it was a commuter college that would appeal more to a person who works and goes to school (or has kids). Not so much for a full time student who had little interaction with anyone in and out of college. There was also limited extra curricular activities on campus. And with some of those activities in and out of campus locked out to those with under 30-45 credits. I did find a nice community in the college boxing club during my last semester of college. But that still leaves out a chunk of my college days where I had to be ok with being a loner most of the time.

    • A moment you got in trouble for something that wasn't your fault

So one day in the 4th grade, we had a reading test. There was a kid sitting next to me who I had an ok friendship with. Shortly after the test began, he started asking me for the answers. I didn't give him squat. And while I don't remember everything and what exactly I said (this was about 18 years ago). I didn't just played the silent game. I told him in a low tone something along the lines that I wasn't going to get involved in cheating. It was stupid for him to ask me anyways, cause I was an average student at best in the 4th grade.

Then our 4th grade teacher comes rushing over, and the kid threw me under the bus. Saying that I was asking him for help and exchanging answers. I attempted to argue back that I told him to pretty much leave me alone. The teacher took both of our tests away, and I ended up failing that test. Along with having nothing to do, but wait for the rest of the class to finish the test. Cause my fellow classmate decided to start up his crap at the beginning of the test.

    • RE: Your Greatest Accomplishment

Other than coming to Christ and having many hurt and broken areas healed. Graduating college comes second. But me getting a full time law enforcement position would probably surpass that. Considering how long I've been waiting for a full time career opportunity to become a cop.

But as for the college. I'm the only one of 6 kids to get a college degree. And out of my extended family, there's only at least 3 cousins that I know of who got a college degree. One of them is in residency working to become a doctor. Going back to me, I had to work my tail end off to graduate in the 4 years I attended college. And had to sacrifice a lot to reach that goal.

    • What kind of things you have on a bucket list

While I don't actually have a written bucket list. Once I get a nice paying job and accumulate enough time on the job and saved up money. I want to go on a trip to Europe for up to two weeks. Probably will only get approved for one week though if I'm still working.

I'm big on history, so I would like to visit lots of museums and historic sites. Its gonna take multiple trips for me to soak in such a large continent. So I'll probably visit 2-3 countries tops each trip to visit the many places I'll like to go and not get burned out. Such as the Tank museum in the UK. Anything related to the Romans. Auschwitz, Chernobyl, and much more.
