    • RE: Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1/PC)

Snake guy is cool, waiting for the PC version will be tough.

The ship in the trailer is probably the multiplayer hub right? I don't think they had showed it before, but I have to say I'm not very closely following the announcements

    • RE: Don't Skip vs Reviews

@Axel said in Don't Skip vs Reviews:

But asking for Don't Skip to be of a purposely inferior quality to justify the distinction obviously feels counter-productive, so I don't really know what to suggest :)

Yes, I want to say that I tried my hardest to not say this but it is a hard task choosing the right words. I just feel like we maybe don't have as much Don't Skips because they are basically as demanding as a review, and maybe other options could be explored.

And also wearing a "corporate" hat, I believe reviews will be seen by the general audience as a higher tier of content than Don't Skips, and I feel like they are limiting their potential reach for not calling some of these proper reviews.

    • RE: Game Openings: Good vs Bad?

I have no problem at all with openings, specially if it is the first time. When I'm playing for the first time I'm very generous about absorbing the world and vibes, and usually even if it has mostly no action at all I go along nicely, like everyone complains about Zelda openings but I don't care at all. My problem is when the game has some sort of new game plus, or I just want to replay it, and I have to go through some boring stuff, because I already know everything they are trying to show me in there, it is still mostly fine though. There was one exception though...

      Dragon Quest 7 (on 3DS)

I played it for 25 to 30 hours and they kept talking about features I would not be able to use for 20 more hours and that was infuriating me (the monster tablets and capturing monsters), it felt like the game was constantly introducing itself to me and never moved on, and while I liked some vignettes, being thrown from one story into the other probably helped me feel like the game wasn't going anywhere. (the menu system is also ridiculously bad, slowdown and poor controls response, probably influential on me giving up)

I don't have experiences with most of the games mentioned here, but Doom does start really well, it presents you just enough of the world while also going into the action, it is a very pure fun game, but it still has a strong atmosphere.

    • Don't Skip vs Reviews

I just watched the Don't Skip for FF XII and I can't stop thinking about differentiating a Don't Skip from a Review, for me personally, hearing the opinion about the game, even though it indicates they haven't finished the game, felt like a very deep review and I feel like it deserved being called that, a review, despite the fact they didn't finish the game, especially since this game in particular is a remaster.

Then looking at past episodes, I'm not even sure why Night in the Woods isn't a proper review aside from being a smaller title. Hollow Knight does feel like something that is not a review, with Ben just fascinated by the game but not really deep enough into it to make a full review.

I also keep thinking about a comment that said the name Don't Skip implied the game was good, but there are also smaller games worth talking about that are not a "don't skip", but just a "maybe check it out", or they even might be a "skip" but they still want to post opinions about it (although I feel Frame Trap would probably be the place for these).

In short, I wonder if "Don't Skips" are the best way to handle these "simpler than reviews" videos, because I keep thinking now that some of these should have a score and be called reviews, and how maybe they need to lower their bar on production value for a Don't Skip for it to be an effective way of getting opinions out there outside of reviews. I would like to know how the other allies feel about this.

    • RE: Nex Machina (PC/PS4)

I got it but just played arcade on rookie and the first challenge in arena, it's very deep and you have to learn the stages, being short is no problem at all as replaying and understanding the stages is so much of the experience.

Only thing I'm not really feeling are the secondary weapons, but I guess with advanced difficulties I'll get the hang of it

    • RE: E3 Top Five! - The top five games you are most excited for!
      1. Splatoon 2 (while not a major presence in the Spotlight, after spending 300+ hours in the first I can't wait to get my hands on it)
      2. Mario Odyssey
      3. Samus Returns
      4. Etrian Odyssey 5 (not a huge E3 presence too, but I'm pumped)
      5. Mario + Rabbids

Bonus: God of War looks amazing, but currently only a Nintendo + PC owner, so it goes to my "if I buy a PS4" list

    • RE: Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1/PC)

I just saw the allies reaction during the conference and you can clearly see Kyle has no idea how Monster Hunter works xD

also, the more I see the more excited I get, the rumor still makes me nervous with the "westernization" talk, but I do see a lot of things that can be streamlined without making the game feel "dumbed down"

    • RE: Monster Hunter: World (PS4/XB1/PC)

@Haru17 I was wondering more in the sense of playing town quests in single player versus playing the hub quests in multiplayer, at least I believe they have more HP in hub quests (or more defense, something like that), even if playing alone. I never really delved deep into MH multiplayer (yeah, I know it is weird :p ), and I wonder if this will be more scalable and not really too punishing to players who don't really play multi that much.

I wonder how they'll deal with Monster HP with drop in/drop out multiplayer, looks okay for now, need to see more, probably in for the PC version when it becomes available, hopefully soon after consoles.

I guess the bit about global releases kills the chance for a day and date localization of XX like rumored by the unusual release date in Japan.
