Design and develop educational games and apps

      Non-gaming Hobby(ies)

      Gaming Historical facts
I began gaming on a Commodore 64 and then moved onto a Windows 95 PC with a ton of DOS games. In the late 90s, I played a lot of Playstation 1 like @seppo91 @Brannox & others above (Final Fantasy VII, Crash and a LOT of demos). Also played a bit of Gameboy Pocket at the time (Tetris, Pokemon Blue and Mario). Afterwards I moved onto PC (C&C Generals, Battlefield 1942, Counter-Strike and many others) and somewhat later moved onto the Xbox 360 and eventually Xbox One. Currently planning on exploring VR via Oculus on Windows or Playstation VR.

      Firm believer that
Games and virtual reality will transform the way we live, exercise and learn over the next two decades.

    • June 2016 RELEASE CALENDAR

At the end of May, after hearing that Easy Allies aren't planning on working on Release Calendars, I decided to put one together for June in the style of the traditional GT Release Calendars and in Easy Allies colors. Since Easy Allies aren't accepting fan-made content yet, I just published it on my own channel. Here it is:

      Youtube Video

I am planning on making one for July with a slightly improved look and smaller texts. What else would you like to see in a Release Calendar video like this? Anything I should improve?

I've always loved Kyle's videos. They have just the right mix of honesty, uplifting humor and just utter craziness.

Maybe some of you have seen this but I wanted to share the following video, which is an incredible tribute to Kyle's shows on GT. Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FRijMzcvIQ

    • E3 News Conference Roundup

One of the allies @Jimmy-Good has been publishing a lot of gaming related videos on Youtube and he even mentioned his channel in his introduction here on the forums.

He just published a great summary of all the press conferences that I thought some of you might want to see:

      Youtube Video

A lot has already been said in the various E3 threads on here but is there something in the press conferences that you would give a rating of "Critical Disappointment" like @Jimmy-Good did for EA Star Wars and Final Fantasy XV?

    • RE: What is your favorite game and why?

There are too many games that have had an emotional impact on me, so I will respond with a game that has changed the way I view video games ... once again.

It is a small title called "The Beginner's Guide" by Davey Wreden, who also worked on another fourth-wall shattering game called "The Stanley Parable", which many of you might have played. In "The Beginner's Guide", Davey shows you various games a friend of his created over the years. He narrates the whole thing and in the process tells a story of his relationship with this friend. I really don't want to spoil anything for those who do actually want to check it out; however, I will say why it was very emotional for me:

It has everything to do with something that is known as the "Imposter Syndrom", which is defined as a " collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist even in face of information that indicates that the opposite is true. It is experienced internally as chronic self-doubt, and feelings of intellectual fraudulence." Many successful artists in the world like Neil Gaiman, Tina Fey or Meryl Streep have admitted to those sorts of feeling of inadequacy. Polygon has even reported on this happening in the game development industry. I have felt a similar feeling in the past and continue to do so on many projects of mine.

"The Beginner's Guide" felt to me like a manifestation of this phenomenon in the form of a video game. If this sort of thing interests you in any way, definitely give this game a try. It is only 10 dollars on Steam and you might be able to get it cheaper during a sale at some point. Just keep in mind that the game is only about 2 hours long, so if you don't have the money, at least you can watch the video walkthrough below:

    • RE: What was the Last Game that made you Cry Allies?

I had a very emotional reaction while playing "The Beginner's Guide". I went into more detail in another post here on the forums. It comes down to the process the main character and narrator goes through as he tries out games created by his friend.

I also became extremely emotional when playing Proteus. I just can't figure out why ;)

    • RE: How long have you been an ally?

Like some of the other people in this topic, I think it was probably back in 2006, which would make it about 10 years at this point :) Wow, that's a long time.

Just to check, I went back to the Internet Archive and looked up what the website looked like back then. Here's a quick screenshot:

Who can still remember this? :)

    • RE: Shareware is back!! What games would you like to see use this model?

@tomoko Yeah, I agree. In the age of digital downloads there is really no reason to release at least a time limited demo of a game ... especially on consoles.

Well, besides potential legal issues between developer/publisher/console manufacturer because somebody on the developer/publisher side might sometime feel that the console manufacturer is just "giving away" their content for free.

    • RE: Warcraft The Movie

The Orc storyline was superior in both plot line and CGI. As you said, the casting was fairly awful on the human side (especially Lothar but Medivh just looked bored) and some of the magic scenes were just TERRIBLE. Especially the demon scene at the end with Medivh felt like an earlier episode of Doctor Who or a fan film.

@Hoken brought up the hammer blows. Those were just brutal!!! Loved that :)

But as you said in the end, I do not regret seeing this in the theater .. and I will most likely see the sequel if they make one. Although I would much rather see an anime or CGI movie in the Overwatch universe :D

And thanks for reminding me of Too Many Cooks. Now I'll have it stuck in my head for the next week or so XD

    • RE: Where should I start with the Persona series?

      Thanks @selfconfessedcynic and @RoyalCactopi :)

Persona 4 Golden is probably gonna be the way to go then :) And having it on a Vita (planning on buying soon) might just be the only way to get through a 90+ hour game like that. Since I travel a lot for work, I've only been playing a lot of iOS mobile games and they become very stale and repetitive over time ;)
