    • RE: About that: Lack of evolution in games

@Nillend My Reply to your Reply, You say that some turn based combat games are simply dull. That is completely true! You know what else is dull? Some real time combat games! Its not about whether it is turn based or real time, it is about the quality of the system and how well it fits into the rest of the game and the world. Final Fantasy XV looks to be an excellent action RPG. Persona 5 looks like an incredible turn based masterpiece. Final Fantasy XV isn't going to be better or worst because its action based instead of turned based- it will be better or worst depending on the overall quality of the game vs the overall quality of Persona 5. Turn Based is its out genre. It is not inherently inferior or worse than other systems- it is simply another type of gameplay altogether.

    • RE: About that: Lack of evolution in games

I believe there is room for all types of games. Why limit artstyles and gameplay mechanics to "modern" just for the sake of being modern? Games can be whatever or however they want, as long as they are good. Specifically dealing with the complaint about turn based systems- That is a unique type of gameplay that cannot be replicated in real time, by definition. Saying Turn Based is outdated and should be changed to real time is akin to saying Chess or Monopoly being turn based is outdated and those board games and new board games should all be converted to real time. Card Games like Magic the Gathering must be outdated too- Turns!? screw that noise, make it real time! Now you know those statements are absurd, because pretty much everything that makes those games work and fucntion and fun is the turn based nature of it all. Some systems in real time are simply chaotic. There is room in the industry for both Turn Based works and Real-Time works, especially considering both are entirely different, and have completely different strengths and weaknesses.

    • RE: Are you buying into VR this year?

Absolutely. After trying it at Best Buy, I am convinced that VR is the future. The era of VR we entering is the equivalent of what PS1/N64 generation was for 3D graphics: Low Fidelity, experimental, and control issues- but finally viable. Birth of entirely new genres, old genres being played in entirely new ways and reinvented, and dead genres completely revitalized. It will only continue to improve in the next 10-20 years. The Hype is real.
