Votes sent. Solid year for me, easy to pick my top 4 but the HM were a struggle, had to left out some favourites. Also disappointing that one of my most anticipated games in the last years didn't even made it to my top 8. Please let the Switch die Nintendo!

    • RE: Completed Games of 2022

Finished 41 games in 2022. Old and new, big and small. Solid year.

This year I want to play less and dedicate more time on working on my game.

I really enjoyed the humour in High on Life but there's an option to reduce the chatter. Pretty much a giant Ricky & Morty show which is awesome if you're a fan.

I'm replaying Witcher 3. I wish most games had the kind of support this game has, 7(?) years later and it's still a beautiful game. Seriously the damn game looks like a beautiful oil painting.

The combat still feels weird but I actually like it, once you know what you're doing you get what the developers were aiming for and it becomes an elegant dance. But so many weird design choices regarding combat. Still I absolutely love the flow.

I don't know if I'm going to finish it but so far I'm enjoying replaying it. Maybe I should start to replay more games.

      High on Life

As a shooter it's nothing special - tbh I just played it on story mode - but for Ricky & Morty fans this is still a mandatory title. In my opinion better that the most recent seasons of the series.

It's a 6/10 game where the writing will make it or brake it depending on personal taste. I personally loved it, it has some genuinely funny moments. As a cool extra you can unlock a full movie (Demon Winds), one of those "so bad it becomes good" movies.

@jdincinerator That makes sense. I thought that one was named SimCity something. I remember people not being happy about that game, yeah.

    • RE: Your top 10 most anticipated games of 2023?

The System Shock art style works great for me. It took me right back to the original while obviously not being the same. I love when remakes manage to achieve that balance between the visual upgrade and maintaining the vibe.

@e_zed_eh_intern Bayonetta 3 can look ugly AF and performance isn't smooth at all. Mario + Rabbids wasn't great too, looked worse than the original.

I still trust Nintendo to deliver a great game.

@e_zed_eh_intern It's just that the hardware's age is showing.

The Invincible - Seems like the kind of game it will get 6/10 everywhere and end up being on my top 3 for the year.

Starfield - I love their games and many years have passed since Fallout 4

Atomic Heart - Seems janky but very cool

System Shock - From what I've played so far it will be great

Zelda TotK - Recent Switch titles left me somewhat skeptical

Silksong - sequel to a GOAT. Very high expectations! I'm nervous!

Redfall - Just because it's Arkane. The more they show the better it looks but still...

      Metroid Prime 4... please 😢

Frostpunk 2 - Didn't knew it was supposed to come out, but if it is I'm all in.

STALKER 2 - For the worst possible reasons it won't come out but I still have hope.

@jdincinerator Skyrim is a great pick.

I'll go with Half-life 2. Not unlike Skyrim, the issues it has today are the same it had back then but, at the same time, what made it great it's still as great as it ever was.

Which might also be because nothing came out since that made me think "damn, this better than HL2". Not unlike Skyrim too, there's plenty of open world games but nothing that does what Skyrim did.

      Pentiment

Incredible game. Wonderful writing on so many levels. The rich historical and religious context, the depth of every single character, the several intrigues that develop during the 25 years the story covers, there's much to love here.

3rd act does drag a bit, although that's optional if you really want to know all there is to know but how could you not? Everything is so thought provoking!

Some narrative bugs (I got 3) on secondary stuff, where the game failed to acknowledge a decision I made.

One of the best games of the year but at the same time it's difficult to recommend. If you don't mind reading it's a superb title.

    • RE: Enemy Overload

@jdincinerator When I was playing Ni No Kuni, I was getting pretty exasperated with how annoying the over explaining of every single mechanic was, then one of the characters said something about how excessive the tutorials were. I thought to myself if that was put there by the writers out of frustration for the amount of text they had to write explaining stuff to the player.

In Plague Tale I noticed that too. About yet another combat encounter. In cases like this I think developers realise the issue but they need to get to a certain runtime and combat is a cheap way of lengthening a game. You have all the code and art done already.

Edit: I'll say that about 100% of all action/adventure games are made worse by forcing unnecessary combat sections.
