The Big Trail is a great example of how far some filmmakers would go back in the day. Giant sets, oodles of extras, literally dangerous stunts, attention to detail. Griffith, Keaton, and the Korda brothers are other great examples. Then stuff got relatively simplified, formulaic, and safe for a few decades until that going-the-extra-mile style made a comeback in the 80's with stuff like Ran, Fitzcarraldo, Brazil, Dune, and James Cameron.

yeah it really is something extra! I totally agree that these top 10s are amazing all way through! I kinda miss this old way of making films.. it was something more.. genuine about the whole process and result that is a different world from days action packed blockbusters

I just want to say, If you havent played Journey to Silius yet, you really should! I recommend the US version as it looks slightly better colour wise and the main character got a cool helmet! I discovered this game at my grandmas place as there were a NES there I could play on. I remember bairly making it past level 2 and by this day I still have not beaten the game! The music in this game is sooo good for its time, fun boss fights and the level design is also fun and challenging!

I'll admit, I felt a little regret after picking David Lynch in the first round but then I saw this list. Top 100 21st Century Films The UK is getting a 4k restoration of Mulholland Drive on the 14th, so hopefully that hits the states soon!

yeah I can imagine! just want you to know that I really really appreciated these threads you do! <3 Keep it up and we are almost on my favourite year (1929)! When I see that you have posted a new one it brings a smile to my face, like some old culture which I think a lot of people otherwise misses

Love your lists as always! I can tell that I have missed a lot of film from this period! However I am happy that you put Kino eye in honorable mentions. It is not his strongest film/doc, but Vertov is one of my favourite directors/film makers from this era! I even wrote a 5 page essay on him at university. He Who Gets Slapped This is how "IT" started? (joke). The Great White Silence I love documentaries, especially from this time in history when the world were bigger and unexplored on a greater scale. I can't put my finger on it but something with this film makes me feel good when I watch it. Entr'Acte I was not sure what to feel when I watched this film (possibly because I was quite young at the time). Its interesting how they play with the camera and editing almost as the film surrounds it rather than it surrounding the film. I really enjoyed this absurd piece of art. Sherlock Jr. Can you do anything else but love Keaton? Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ Never been a fan of the Ben-Hur story to begin with, but this one is almost a "must see" film anyway just because of how it tells the story. Battleship Potemkin I feel so terrible that I havent watched this entire film! It is one of those films that everyone MUST see that follows film history in any shape or form. I keep hearing so much amazing things about this that I need to really sit down and watch all of it. Seven Chances Another Keaton film that had me in stitches so many times. This is in class with some of Chapplins best films and its one of those films that had me smiling long after it finished. The Big Parade As I am a big fan of war movies this also feels like one of those I really need to sit down and watch at some point.

Went over to my friends yesterday and we watched The Truman Show because he hadn't seen it. The film holds up. Really love the concept and just love the movie.

      R

This thread just popped up on NeoGAF today about a bogus review of the nes in 1986: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1250775 They say to pass on the nes in favor of atari 7800 or the soon to be released sega system. I don't know if we can post links on here but I thought it was too timely to pass up.

Other then the ones you mentioned, I loved Gauntlet. Granted I played it much later, but I still love to go to my local arcade and steal all the food from my fiance. I don't know why he still plays that game with me. Warrior needs food! Valkyrie stole it all!
