    • RE: PSVR Hype???

I have almost no hype for the launch of PSVR. Even if VR is the real deal, the 1st gen will be rocky. I'll wait till the nausea factor is overcome, the resolution/graphical fidelity is improved, and they start making real games (instead of novelties that can only be played in short bursts).

    • RE: Need some advice/help or a cute picture of a cat

First of all, you have time to hit the reset button (I went to grad school in my 30s). I would suggest targeting an in demand job and pursuing the education to get it. Getting a career on track will help with the car, girlfriend, and probably some of the depression issues. If not, at least you'll have the money to pay for professional help (and for a career change down the road).

Maybe you could be a cameraman or someone working behind the scenes. I'm not saying you don't have what it takes to be a journalist, but jobs like this would be easier to get and would allow you keep the dream alive (get your foot in the door/make connections/better understand the industry).

    • RE: Travel - Chile

Wow some of those pictures are really cool! I'm a geologist and love seeing large scale evidence of glaciation like that. Was there any talk of how far they had retreated in the last few years (or decades)? Bringing up a map of Chile and I didn't realize how much of it was national parks. Is off season crazy cold? Is it kid friendly? You're making me want to plan a trip to South America

I got accepted into GAF pretty quickly. Do you have a valid paid (non-free) email address? They have the email requirement and are heavy with the ban hammer to cut down on the amount of idiots/trash talking.

    • RE: I Need Help Selecting 1440p monitor from these choices

I haven't bought a monitor in a very long time so I'm pretty uninformed

I do know to take a very close look at the input lag if you get a tv (I don't think that this is as big deal with monitors). Also, people say that HDR is a bigger deal than 4k, but its still in its infancy and introduces some input lag.

I would personally get a 1080p now, save some money, and get a good 4kHDR set when the price comes down in a few years....but that LG you found looks pretty good.

    • RE: Is the Scorpio enough to make you switch mid generation?

Other posters are on point. Console gaming has a few advantages over PC; lower initial cost, accessibility, exclusives. MSs policy of releasing their exclusives on the PC as well as the xbone/scorpio wipes out exclusives. We don't know the scorpios specs or cost, but its sounding like it'll be quite powerful and expensive (making the initial cost of a PC look a lot better).

Maybe I'll get the scorpio...but it's certainly making me take a close look at building a PC. I'm also going to buy games digitally so they'll be playable on a PC if I end up getting one.

    • RE: PS4 Pro or new GPU for my gaming PC?

My vote (as a console gamer) would be for the pro. Having no idea how much of a jump the 1070 would provide, it seems like the pro would allow you to play games that you couldn't otherwise, and the 1070 would allow you to play what you already can with slightly better graphics....I guess the pro would allow you to jump on the VR train if it pans out.

Its kinda funny that you seem to be a graphics whore but don't care about HDR

    • RE: Why are so many PS4 Pro complaints just the fact that it isn't as powerful as a $2000 PC?

      @mattlandry

      Yep I agree.

Unfortunately, people will grab a hold of any perceived weakness and trash anything that they can. The internet has created a culture of raining on parades that you just gotta ignore. People watching a compressed stream on their 1080p monitor and concluding that 4k hdr doesn't add anything is a perfect example.

      @Whoaness

Your post is full of good points. I would also like to make clear that PC gaming is too complex and finicky for me. Half gen consoles are ok unless we veer more towards small updates every few years. It would suck to spend $400 on a card to every 2 years to play new games at max settings....but it would also suck to spend $400 on a console every 2 years to play new games at max settings.

    • RE: Why are so many PS4 Pro complaints just the fact that it isn't as powerful as a $2000 PC?

Most of it is console war BS. People (especially faceless voices online) will crap on anything for no reason....But I do have concerns about this iterative model that manufacturers seem to be moving toward. I'm a console gamer mostly for the convenience, and a big part of that is knowing that the $400 I drop on a console will give me 5 years of access to the newest games. Now I'm not so sure. Will devs target the scorpio/pro and gimp the xbone/ps4 versions? $400 every 3 years instead of 5 makes the pc price tag a bit easier to swallow.

    • RE: Music Discussion!

I love threads like this cause I'm always on the lookout for new music (stuff I've never heard) and never know where to find it...So keep the recommendations coming. I'm mostly into jambands (phish, grateful dead), newgrass (sam bush, leftover salmon, ymsb, string cheese), classic rock, and alternative/radio hits from the 80s and 90s.

    • RE: PS4 Neo revealed as PS4 Pro

I don't think we can say what benefits the pro will have over the ps4 at this point, but I'm guessing it will have improved performance and more effects. You should see some benefit even if you don't have a 4k hdr tv (I'm not saying it'll be worth the price).

Unfortunately, it'll be really hard to get hyped by any reveal/gameplay trailers going forward as all of them will be running on a pro. I'm also a bit concerned that there will be a slow decline in the quality of ps4 games as more people upgrade to the pro.

    • RE: 1987

I always enjoy your lists, but this time I must admit that I haven't played any of your favorites. Doing a google search I found a bunch of games that released in 87 that I really enjoyed

Double Dragon, Punch Out, Mega Man, Castlevania 2, blades of steel, jaws, bases loaded..... Now that I look I gotta agree....87 kinda sucked.

    • RE: NMS Adventures

Cool story. I was about to say it needs pics before I saw your follow up post. Games these days seem to be about blasting through things as quickly as possible to get to the end. Hopefully people can slow down and enjoy (and not get frustrated by) little adventures like this.

I'm not quite sold on NMS yet....and I'm about to have a kid so I doubt I'll have the time to appreciate it, but your story does make it sound pretty fun.

    • RE: What are your top 10 SP FPS campaign?

Very PC heavy list. Not a bad thing, but a bit difficult to relate as a console gamer. Do you think that these still hold up? With the "iterative" approach consoles seem to be moving towards, and PC/xbox compatibility, I'm considering making the move to PC. I'd like to have a good pool of old school games to keep an eye out for.

My list (from a console gamer in no particular order)

Doom2016: I was really concerned about the glory kills, but the game is rock solid and just feels great.

Wolfenstein New Order: Another one that just feels good.

Deus Ex HR: Maybe the gunplay isn't that great, but the RPG elements and the world make it a fun experience.

Goldeneye: Could go perfect dark, but either way the single player is often overlooked.

Far Cry (4?): 3 and 4 are very similar, but I think I'd give the edge to 4 (as 3 came out at the end of a generation and was pretty choppy).

Resistance 3: overlooked gem of last gen

Bioshock: This ones all about the atmosphere.....though the combat in 2 is a bit better.

Rainbow 6 Vegas 2: Not many tactical FPSs on consoles so this really stands out.

COD4: Its easy to rip on COD these days, but MW was fresh at the time.

Killzone 2: Pretty good AI, heavy weapons, awesome graphics.

FEAR and halo are also really great but don't quite make the cut.

Yeah I've always found this a little funny....but, to be fair, something like 90% of the human race lives in the northern hemisphere, so it makes sense to stick with our terminology.

    • RE: Bethesda VP: The Evil Within and RAGE merited follow-ups

@TheMarcV said in Bethesda VP: The Evil Within and RAGE merited follow-ups:

Didn't play TEW but I was a really big fan of RAGE. I would agree though that the cities just seemed a little too empty and quiet. I really mostly enjoyed the FPS, I loved the weapons and the different things you could build like turrets, deadly boomerangs and those spider robots. The AI was so fun to fight against since some of the enemies would climb on walls, juke and dodge your attacks. Then add in the game was really beautiful and I just really enjoyed messing around in it. Id be very interested to see a sequel or even a cheap remaster since the game had a lot of texture load in on PS3.

I agree with all of this. Rage was a great game despite its issues (and horrible ending). Decapitating enemies with the bladed boomerang was awesome.
