@naltmank It is definitely meant to convey realism. This is not a spoiler, but the more you feed Trico, the more you earn its trust and get it to obey your commands quickly and accurately.

    • RE: The Last Guardian (PS4)

I appreciate that the game played with your expectations of whether or not the boy or Trico would die. I don't understand all the hate for the controls but I'm guessing not a lot of people played both this game and Ico.
That's what this game was, Ico 2, and I'm happy it exists. I've always felt that Ico was a better game on its own compared to Shadow of the Collosus, but I've replayed SotC a dozen times and only finished Ico once, so this is a great way to revisit that style of game but with a much more interesting companion.
I was disappointed that the Master of the Valley didn't live up to the Witch or Dormin's incredible payoffs at the end of their respective games, but I felt good about the ending of The Last Guardian. However, the endings of Ico and Shadow of the Collosus stuck with me because they went in odd directions, and fell somewhere between a happy and sad ending, and unfortunately this one is probably the least memorable ending of the three. Looking back, I won't think too heavily on the ending of this game, but on Trico itself and all the wonderful hijinks you get into together.
      I loved it, truly.

But why did it have to come out right around FFXV, Let It Die, the final RE7 demo and so much more? I felt like there was an overload of information surrounding the PS4 that prevented me from focusing completely on the game. Oh well.

    • RE: What kind of game trailer appeals to you?

I'm a simple man: music is what makes trailers memorable to me.
Persona 5, Deus Ex HR/MD, and even Skyrim's cinematic trailers all got me jumping with excitement.
Showing various things like Persona's awesome menus, Deus Ex's worldbuilding through Adam's narration, and Skyrim showing off the [at the time] captivating environments were all helped by incredible musical accompaniment that seemed perfectly timed to the trailer.
MGSV's trailers would not have been the jawdropping spectacles they were without Donna Burke or "STANDING".

    • RE: How do you decide when you have a new favorite game?

I go through a phase where I think "yes this is it! my new favorite game!" And then a day or two later I just go back to believing that it's Half Life 1.
There were some great contenders though, such as:
      Xenoblade Chronicles
      Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
      Shin Megami Tensei IV
      Deus Ex 1
      Deus Ex Mankind Divided
      Shadow of the Collosus
      and Resident Evil Remake

But Half Life always wins out in the end.
Every playthrough I consistently find myself tense and unsure if I'll survive the next encounter or even just navigating the landscape, and that pacing is incredible.
