@suplextrain Little Dragon Cafe really jumped out to me as a huge fan of Harvest Moon 64. I think it will be cool to have the same feel of Harvest Moon, but in the context of a cafe rather than a farm. Farming is fun, but it is fairly played-out at this point.

Well it seems you still own a farm, in a sense. It's just that the focus is more on the cafe.

It's honestly very strange reading some of your posts as you talk about the issue with some people but it genuinely looks like you're describing yourself.

In what way? Close-mindedness and such? I strive to challenge my ideas but I prefer to stick to the point and hand and not get side tracked on red-herring topics. If someone is adamant about talking about something irrelevant while avoiding questions directed at them and staying on topic then why bother waste time trying to discuss something with someone that doesn't actually want to discuss the topic? Nothing strange about it.

@tokeeffe9 said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

And you're right, I do completely disagree with your take on aggression and bluntness. Calling a poster narrow-minded and/or a white knight is insulting

Matter of perception I guess. People can be offended by anything nowadays. It's strange however to me when people focus more on individual words over what is being said, especially if said person is being passive-aggressive or is actually saying some nasty/controversial stuff. Oh well.

@tokeeffe9 said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

and also a strange thing to call someone who has actually done some research on the topic.

Yes, wow. He did (supposedly) the exact same thing I did and looked at view numbers. He didn't post them, didn't compare them or anything. He merely mentioned it to try and back up his idea that Easy Update is in fact really popular and almost everyone loves it the way it is. Not only is pursuing this thread irrelevant (until you can argue that it actually is) but as I said prior he has a clear bias and would go in trying to prove something with statistics over actually looking at it objectivelly. He demonstrated this already.

I emphasis you as the majority of people I know like Easy Update.

That matters how? Did you also consider that you're generally drawn to people that like the things you like so using that as some sort of indicator is seldom a good idea. But whatever, let's drop this. No point in continuing.
I was interested in discussing the show, not this irrelevant and pointless bickering.

@futurecorpse said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

Honestly you've a privileged life when you can moan about all this sjw/atl right nonsense. Settle down have a family you'll know what really matters in life.

If that's directed at me then that's frankly pretty ignorant. You know borderline nothing about me yet decide to make some bold statements about my life. But by all means elaborate on how you extrapolated info from my posts that I haven't settled down with a family, etc. Or preferably don't, since you can't and it'd get this topic even more side-tracked and off-topic.

Also I didn't start this. I very clearly wanted to discuss the show but TokyoSlim got upset that someone dares think that EasyUpdate isn't amongst the most popular EZA content. I frankly couldn't care less about that.
The some people perceive me as being aggressive because I dared call someone narrow-minded and white-knight. It was also funny how TokyoSlim took this personally and got even more upset yet accused me of this when again I just don't care about him or what he's peddling.
But again whatever, it's clear some people here don't actually want to discuss the actual show and instead want to bicker (for reference, I made it clear I had no interst in going on about this bickering but you people can't seem to be able to let it go, so I tried to clarify some things yet you just kept the ball rolling) about irrelevant stuff. No reason to be in a thread with people like that. A shame, but hey what can you do. But go ahead and blame it all on me for being a narrow-minded meanie or something if it makes you feel better.

Dragon Cafe and Mutant year Zero. Both of those games look really interesting.
The GDC talks (sessions) I usually watch on their GDC archive YT page, so I didn't really pay much attention to Blood's summary of them.

@sabotagethetruth said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

You admit to not having watched the show in over a year. I would say that speaks volumes.

Of what? It says that I don't find it to be worthwhile. Do you feel that the show has radically changed since? If so, how? Would the complaints I had a year ago no longer be valid to today? Why?

      @tokyoslim
Not sure why you decided to type something directed at me that I specifically said I would brush off as irrelevant and uninteresting. You just waste your time and effort because I'm not gonna read it.
Before you blurt out by calling me close-minded or something, it's basically a situation where I'm talking about X and you start talking about Y, where Y is something I have 0 interest in. I just don't care. I'm interested in talking about the actual quality and structure of the show, not how much you love Ian and his content. Even Ian himself is aware that he isn't exactly the most popular ally and he's made peace with it, you should do the same. Either way, not gonna read or reply to you again if you harp on about this thing.

      @tokeeffe9
I'm not aggressive at all. The issue is that some people get far too defensive and start talking about irrelevant things I have no interest in discussing, especially since it typically has nothing to do with what I was talking about. Also I quite clearly have already stated my opinion on the matter yet say tokyoslim decided to focus on what I considered to be frankly irrelevant over discussing the actual show itself.

And no there is nothing aggressive about saying that somone is narrow-minded or a white knight. It's not namecalling just to be an ass, like calling someone a subhuman idiot or something. I state my reasons for why I am not interested in talking with someone. Narrow-minded people are generally a waste of time to discuss with online and I honestly can't stand white knighting since it's such a heavy bias that tends to blind people. Both of these things hurt sensible discussion, hence why I lose interest in wanting to talk to these people. Because what's the point of discussing something if you're not going to challenge your ideas?

I will however admit that I'm blunt and that rubs some people the wrong way. But being blunt is not aggressive. It's difficult to read things like tone and such in text form, but you shouldn't just naturally assume that someone is an ass, mad or aggressive. But whatever, if you think I'm aggressive then anything I say is moot.

@sabotagethetruth said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

It's funny, you get told you're narrow-minded when you're looking at the actual number of views per show and extrapolating data from that.

It's funny because he clearly didn't look at the numbers and compare them. Also going into something with statistics to prove something instead of looking at it from an unbiased position is also a mistake many people make.
You also clearly don't know why I used the word "narrow-minded" either, but I know enough about you to not expect that. But enough about this.

As for Easy Update, it lacks direction and vision. Pretty clear Ian didn't really know what to make of his new show and that Elyse was the captain of the ship that was Mandatory Update. That's the big seperator between someone like Kyle and Ian. Kyle's content (from streams to shows) clearly has more thought put into them while Ian's feels like something some art student scrambles together to meet a deadline by the end of the week.
Easy Update is basically nothing at this point and it's a detriment. If he put some restrictions on it and put more thought into each episode they could be much better. Or Ian could focus more on Fiasconauts and the movie podcast.
Point is Mandatory Update was something while Easy Update is nothing. It could be something much more yet Ian just keeps trucking along doing "whatever".

    • RE: Far Cry 5 (PC/PS4/XB1)

Maybe a slight spoiler to some, but this game probably broke the record for the amount of times the protag is captured, not killed and then escapes. It's absurd how many times it happens. Every time it happens (which interrupts you btw) you're rewarded with one of the low-points of the game as well. These also happen when you do the things you'd rather be doing in said area. Some brilliant design right there.

@tokyoslim said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

It is averaging over 9k views per show over the last 10 weeks, and if you go back another 10 weeks, it's even higher. This compares pretty favorably to many of the other shows. So I have actual youtube numbers to back me up.

Jesus christ, take your narrow-minded white knighting elsewhere. Look at the numbers. I'm not gonna waste time typing up a chart for someone that would be in denial anyway. Especially when you probably think Ian is amongst the more popular allies amongst people (which would frankly be ignorant). I couldn't give a rats ass if you disagree, because your goal here is tied to you not liking the idea that gasp Ian and his show isn't that popular so you have to "defend" it.
I even specifically talked about the problems with the show, but since you didn't go off about that I'm assuming you agree with me? Or don't you have a counter to it?

I'm sorry, but I have no interest in talking to people like you. I thought I made this clear with my last post, but I'm saying it again. Reply if you want, but if it's about this drivel I'm not gonna bother to read through all of it. If there's one thing I can't stand it's favorism and blind fanboyism.

@tokyoslim said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

This is not actually true. Unless your definition of "amongst" includes nearly everything outside of the Main podcasts, reviews, and Retros. (You said SHOWS. So like Huber Syndrome, EZ Anime, Reaction Shots, etc)

What are you on about? I'm not sure if you're dense or if you want to start something. Mandatory Update is not amongst the more popular EZA content. Also when I say shows I mean regular content, not stuff like retrospectives or something.
You saying it's amongst their more popular content?

Also, I think you should probably not try to ascribe a position for "most" people unless you've polled "most" people. This seems a lot like a personal opinion projected onto others.

I don't care if you disagree, but you don't really pay much attention if you think most people think Mandatory Update is the best content EZA releases. There are numerous factors. Average viewcount, general consensus is that Ian is the least liked ally (let's be real here, Ian tends to get the most flak), etc.

This is getting sidetracked so I don't want to waste more time on this shit. Especially if you think MU is amongst their more popular content despite having nothing to back it up with. I've already presented my criticism and I don't care if you disagree.

@suplextrain easy update is one of the best shows

Subjective. But most people don't agree with you. After all Easy Update gets amongst the least views out of their more recent shows.

@ferrisk96 said in Man, I want a comedy news show like Mandatory Update.:

It's directionless, but that's kind of his concept.

Which I think is more out of convenience/laziness or a lack of vision than some inspired idea. Basically "I don't know what to do on my new show, so I'll just do whatever". This lack of focus never ever helps during a creative process. Restrictions breed creativity.

But this is what Ian currently wants and we should respect that.

No? Their job is to provide the content their supporters wants to see. People don't give them money so they can just fuck around. If for example 99% of all patreon supporters didn't like a show they produced with the money they gave them, should they really be making that show? Absolutely not.
I mean yeah sure they're not forced to do anything (like if Kyle doesn't want to do a Final Bosman type show then he shouldn't have to) but they should definately try and come up with something their supporters and audience wants. If a person made a show 99% of their supporters doesn't like and that person didn't want to make any other show, should they even be making a show in the first place? Shouldn't that money go elsewhere then?

Easy Update is one of their less popular shows and it being a weekly show feels like a waste. Heck, making it a monthly or every other week kind of show would maybe help Ian create those better episodes of the show, if he really wants to keep the format.
As it stands it just feels like money that could be better spent elsewhere.
