      The Witcher 3

For me this game fluctuates widely between being incredible and infuriating. The world is amazingly detailed and beautiful. The combat is awful. The characters are so well thought out and feel like actual people. The story is.... fun in parts but overall disappointing. And so I’m not sure what to think of it overall. Worth playing, but I won’t be playing the DLC.

I'm still going at The Witcher 3. Although I think I'm heading towards the end of that given the current main quest is called Final Preparations.

However Ni No Kuni II is the deal of the week on the playstation store this week. So I've just started that as well... only put an hour in but if it's even half as good as the first I'm gonna love it.

As a Welsh man i’ll Be the first to say we get a little over excited about Bale at times.

But that goal top notch! They just don’t get better than that.

      Verstappen has crashed.... yet again.

That’s every race weekend he’s found a way to hit something. Daniil Kvyat was kicked out the Bulls for less issues than that.

      Deus EX: Mankind Divided
      Metal Gear Solid V
      Bloodborne
      Mad Max

All 4 were recent PS+ games that I had been interested in but not sure of. All 4 were fun for a little while but I didn't enjoy them enough to stick with them for one reason or another. I can't remember where I got on Deus Ex. MGS I got as far as not being in Pakistan anymore, but in a jungle. Bloodborne I got to the second boss. Mad Max I met someone called Pink Eye.

I think the fact that I put £0 down on these games makes it easier to leave them unfinished.

    • RE: [Official] What are you playing?

@Sentinel-Beach I played it. There is a main area with a shop and a tower on it that is sort of the centre of the world. And as you transform into different animal forms you gain the ability to head in different directions. If you can suddenly go in a direction that was previously blocked to you, then that's the way to go.
I've never played the '89 version but I found it difficult enough that I never finished it. I got to the final boss, but no matter what I did, or how many times I tried I never even got close to defeating it. The game isn't long, but it didn't feel insultingly short either.

      The soundtrack is superb.

Leclerc is beginning to look like a real star.

The biggest question for me is how much longer can Grosjean last if keeps driving as he is. If he puts it in the wall at Monaco and I think it could be the end of his time in F1.

    • RE: E3 2018 Dreams/Predictions

I have three reasonable predictions for Square Enix showcase:

      1. Kingdom Hearts III dated. This seems like a no-brainer to me. Probably late November.
      2. FF8 joins 7 and 9 with a port to the PS4. This will be a shadow drop. Just like 9 was.
      3. FFXIII trilogy will be released on PS4 early in 2019. This one, I think, is least likely. But I want to play them again.

      Alien Isolation!

What a game. I’m usually pretty quiet whilst playing, lounging back in the sofa. This game was a full of yelps of shock, of me perched right on the edge of my seat leaning forwards, keeping as close an eye on the alien as I could.
Sweating as you try to escape from the nest in the heart of sevastapol.

      Wonderful, excellent, engrossing game.

    • RE: Help me understand the hype about superhero movies

So I can only really speak to the MCU, not the DC stuff.

The first thing that's worth noting that the MCU is basically a soap opera but with superpowers (I would argue the same is true of the comics). And as with any soap opera, it only works if you like the majority of the characters, and so care about them. Much like the Spider-man and Batman animated series you watched as a kid, actually.

Secondly I think it's worth remembering that these aren't smart intellectual movies. They're dumb fun of the very best kind. Big bright colourful smile-inducing fun. Don't expect anything ground breaking.

So I think the "I feel like it's the same thing over and over again" can be a problem. Especially if you're watching the first movie in each characters series. Iron Man 1, Cap 1, Spiderman 1, Batman Begins, etc. These are all stories that are telling us how someone becomes the superhero that we know and love, establishing who they are. They all have the same basic pattern. Them getting powers (or having a need to build a suit or whatever), finding a bad guy/thing that needs defeating, and finding the strength within themselves to defeat the bad, whilst learning who they really are in the process.
To see what they can be once you get past that, maybe try Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I think that's a very different kind of movie in taking Cap and then putting seeing what he does in this tough place. Just The Dark Knight took the Batman established in Batman Begins and then starts seeing how this guy reacts rather than establishing a baseline. Looking at the animated series you mentioned I think it's interesting they don't even start with origin stories, they just jump into the soap opera of it all.

Finally, I think it's fine not to like them. It may not be that you're missing anything that would make them click for you, just that they aren't your kind of stuff. And that's fine. There is nothing wrong with missing out on things you don't enjoy.

Since submitting my votes I have played through Transistor. It didn’t blow me away, but may have scraped an honourable mention spot.

I enjoyed the combat system and the different decisions made in loadout. But I would have loved slightly more story. It was there, and it was alright, but it didn’t drive me forwards at any point.

    • RE: Parents/Aunts/Uncles/Friends of Parents: Favourite Game Moments with Kids in Your Life

Me and my son (who was 5 at the time) played through Knack together in co-op. As games go it was perfect for him.

Lego Dimensions was good fun for a while.

My youngest son (just turned 3) wanted a go on the PS3 recently. So I put Super Stradust HD on for him. He got the general idea, but he only pushed the sticks up, left or right. Never down. So when the asteroid was at the bottom of the screen he would turn the controller upside down, that way when he pushed up the ship flew down. So the co troller was constantly rotating in his hand making the game far harder than it should have been.

Three years after I gave up, I've gone back to The Witcher 3. I wasn't an open world guy then, the freedom was overwhelming. But since then I've played and enjoyed FFXV, Horizon, Just Cause 3, Infamous: Second Son. So I thought I'd give it another go.
I can't say yet if I'll stick with it this time, but I am enjoying where I've got to.

    • RE: EZA curates May games: What are you anticipating? What's worth checking out?

If I can scrape the cast together there are two games that interest me this month:

Yoku's Island Express - I used to play a load of pinball games in my childhood. (I got really good at Eight Ball Deluxe, and quite good at Angel Egg Pinball). Mixing pinball with story and metroidvania elements sounds like a delightful time.

Dragons Crown Pro - My only hesitation with this one is knowing how high my wife's eyebrows will raise at seeing the sorceress' cleavage. It was bad enough with Seraphina in Disgaea 5!

I can't remember what I eventually gave my top spot to, but it could well have been Child Of Light.
I adored the fairy tale feel, I loved the flying around, the combat system was good and interesting. I cared about the cast of characters. I was a little emotional at the ending.

But mostly I love the soundtrack, I listen to it all the time. It's haunting and beautiful.

I'm delighted it made the list.

    • RE: Last game you finished

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - The telltale game. This was good fun, I enjoyed the story and hanging out with the gang. The only problem I had with it is that it never sold me on the "your actions matter" thing. In Walking Dead I knew that what I did would have consequences, people would die or leave the group and stuff. In Guardians, as much as they tried (even when I sent someone out the airlock in episode 4) I never thought we wouldn't end up together having defeated the bad guy as a team. Apart from that it's a good fun comic book story, and the characters were true to who they were. If you like Telltale games, then you'll like this too.

BEYOND: TWO SOULS - Same kind of problem I had with guardians for the most part. Because the time line jumps around you see the results of things you're then asked to do. So I know how it's going to go, and there's nothing I can do to change it. This lessened right in the last couple of chapters, and there it felt like I had a say it what happened with a couple of big choices. If you like this kind of game, it's a swimming in sevens sort of affair I think. Not perfect but passes the time well enough.

SONG OF THE DEEP - I loved it. I loved the gentle feel of that game. I loved the underwater world. I loved the Irish accent for the narrator. I loved that it was a young girl out to rescue her Dad and not the other way around. I loved the abilities you get for the ship. I loved the amount of secrets hidden around. And it was really well timed, finishing right as I was starting to tire of things. I picked it up on a PSN sale for about £3 , and more than got my moneys worth out of it.

    • RE: What is your favourite Point & Click Adventure game?

The first one I ever really loved was Full Throttle. It's great fun, even if some of puzzles are ludicrously convoluted.

As to more recent ones, things that have already been mentioned like Life Is Strange and Until Dawn. I also enjoyed Broken Age quite a lot.
