    • RE: Kyle Bosman cheating E3 bets last evening.

      People are taking this way more seriously than I expected. The amount of outright anger in the YouTube comments is kind of surprising to me. Watching Kyle weasel his way out of this was probably more fun than watching him actually stream the whole game. And hey, he did warn us that he'd try to make this as unsatisfying as possible for Huber.

    • RE: Games you feel compelled to go back and replay?

      I replay Final Fantasy IX on the regular. I just finished disc 2 (well, "disc 2" since I'm playing the Steam version this time) on my latest replay.

      I'm also extremely compelled to replay Final Fantasy XII International right now, but I'm also torn, because part of me wants to wait until the PS4 remaster is released next year.

    • RE: The Final Fantasy Debate

      @Sheria

      That's so interesting to me, because I think we probably have the opposite taste regarding FF games. FFVIII is easily my least favorite--I wouldn't call it a bad game by a long shot, and I enjoyed my time with it, but I think it's the one I'm least likely to go back to (out of the ones I've played, which doesn't include II or III). Meanwhile, FFXII (at least the IZJS version) brings me back over and over again.

      It really is sort of a "what clicks with you" thing with this series, I think.

    • RE: The Final Fantasy Debate

      For me it's VI, IX, and XII, and I don't want to have to pick between them. XII is there partially because I'm in love with Ivalice as a setting, but I also think it's a really good game all around. Even its story, which sticks really closely to the classic Hero's Journey with some interesting character interactions (Vaan as Ashe's foil, for example), I really love.

      I'm perhaps too hyped for the PS4 remaster. I've already played the International Zodiac Job System version, the version they're remastering, but apparently they're rebalancing and tweaking the gameplay in that, so I'm excited that some things will still be new.

    • RE: Franchises gone awry?

      Breath of Fire.

      I think the tragedy of Breath of Fire for me is that the game that "killed" the series, Dragon Quarter, is actually a fantastic game. I think Dragon Quarter has even been vindicated a bit over time--people hated it when it came out, but these days I mostly see people gushing about it. Breath of Fire 6 apparently exists as a browser game, so it's more of an undead series than a dead series, but man. Breath of Fire was amazing while it lasted.

    • Chocobo Appreciation Station: In Which We Talk About Final Fantasy

      I'm on a real big Final Fantasy kick right now, probably set off by the announcement of FFXII: The Zodiac Age, and as a result I want to talk about Final Fantasy a whole bunch. So how about a general-purpose FF thread?

      Right now I'm replaying Final Fantasy IX, which has always been one of my favorites, but even now I'm still surprised at just how much charm this game has. That charm's inherent in everything from the character designs, to the enemy designs (the friendly monsters!), the way the game handles chocobos (you become good buddies with a single chocobo throughout the game), and how snappy and easy-going the dialog tends to be. It's a real feel-good game.

      Anyone else playing or thinking about Final Fantasy these days?
