Citizen Sleeper is great. You can tell it was written by one person that is a really good writer. It's messy and lives in the grey areas, but it still has something to say about the things it cares about. The subtext of capitalism and bodily autonomy are prevalent throughout. The idea of community and freedom are not just themes, but how you progress through the story. This is essentially a tabletop RPG presented with some visual novel elements. Depending on your physical condition, you start every day with a number of dice. You use these dice to determine your "success" or "failure" on various interactions. Oftentimes there's a ticking clock driving you to complete a thing, or your own hunger, or your body's need for certain medicines.

There seems to be quite a few endings, depending on how you spend your time, who you interact with and how. I saw 4 of them, none of them were more than bittersweet. It's just that kind of game. :)

I think we might have determined that that was the single highest point total swing on a single question to date. Took a haymaker on the chin, never really recovered. lol I can do better!

also, obviously I recommend Mad God to anybody of discerning taste, but it's hard to find more than the first 3 parts online right now, so just wait until the full official release. :)

@dipset said in Best films of 2021:

She couldn't take it very seriously with the underground betting and that secret society element.

I think that's what I liked most about the film. I am pretty much the only person who I know that's talked about the world building in Pig being kinda insane, and nobody really noticing, because everybody is waiting/watching for it to come from Cage, who actually GROUNDS the films with an understated, but no less satisfying performance. Also, there's a lot of sardonic winks and nods to the prestige restaurateurs up here that I appreciate. I can only imagine some of my favorite local chefs engaging in underground street fights in their down time and it makes me laugh. unironic chef's kiss

Maybe check out Last Night in Soho. I went in more or less blind on that, and Edgar Wright kind of surprised me. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Riders of Justice is also a very good movie that's not necessarily what you expect.

Drafted third from last in a 15 team league. I think I did ok with it, but obviously the universe is nerfing me by putting me in my least favorite draft position.

@DIPSET Yeah, Sean Baker really is becoming one of my favorite American writer/directors.

@brunojoey i am going to send you an invite in about an hour to the league and our league discord, where we discuss rules changes and talk polite amounts of trash at each other's pick-ups.

Also, if you'd rather just sit the year out, let me know that too, and we can open some spots up if anybody else here wants to join. (we can do that anyways if there's enough interest.)

Draft Day is 1/10/2022 at 5pm PST. If you can't make it, I'm fine with drafting from a list for you or auto drafting using the hype score. If you want me to draft for you, PM me a list of the games you want in order and I'll do my best. If you run out of listed games, I will draft based on hype meter.

Also: none of the proposed rule changes have a majority vote yet, so if you haven't voted, you might want to take a look at that Google doc in the pinned posts on the discord.

@sentinel-beach I'm glad it seems to be ok. I'm gonna be honest, I trust Villeneuve - but this one had me worried. I'm looking forward to it coming out here in the US someday.
